Thats fine as long as you're not taking all your music to a friends house for their new years eve party! I really don't want to pack my entire computer and monitor and take that.

They've addressed this issue already

Your zune will need a "hard reset."
To do this, use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where the zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug. Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable ...

Yeah same problem at the same time and a zune30. Hopefully we'll hear something about this just being a rollover bug and when the devices battery flattens we can do a full device wipe and be OK again. So is this the y2k008 bug we heard nothing about ;) seriously this is more things failed on one day that there was with all the panic on y2k hehe

If its anything like the last two updates it may be slow while it sorts out the info for the songs all over again. You could try turning off the "update missing data" in the options and see what happens or just leave the Zune sw open a while whilst it updates.

Make sure you have the windows firewall turned on...... come on MS fix the damn install failing if the firewall is off lots of other software companies seem to be able to add rules without the firewall being tunred on why can't you?

Yes thats the video converter. maybe try to download the video again it may be corrupt. The old software showed a progress indicator which was great as video took ages to convert and at least you could tell it hadn't hung.

Its probably converting the video in the background. Unfortunately unlike the old vesion there is no progress indicator on the conversion process. I feel this was a major mistake as it looks like the program has hung and indeed if it does (mine did last night) we have no idea therefore do not know we need to restart the software.

Yeah one of the Zune team has said its gone, can't remember if they said it would be back or not but I sorely miss it and I am converting all my music to 192kbps as we speak. I truly hope they put this and many other things back in the software.

Its not in the software any longer. I think its totally insane to remove it myself as all my music is at 320kbps due to play on my main hi-fi which is connected to my MCE machine. There is a post from one of the zune team on page 3 or 4 of this forum.

I didn't get
"Custom Action 19:37:58.092: Operation 'RemoveDriver' has finished with result 0x80004005."
But I got the rest of the error message. I turned ON the windows firewall and was able to install the software. Not sure why it needs to have it on but it worked for me
