Native American Flute

Could someone point me to some good Native American Flute music/artists?
I'm having very limited results in my searches.

Aside from the lyric interpretation, I wrote the wikipedia page on him. His music is fantastic--rock played at a time in Russia where it was outlawed. Rock artists like Bashlachev had to play at small gatherings at friends houses, called kvartirniki. There, the artist would play for a small group (most of these performances by Bashlachev had only five or six attendees). Unfortunately, Bashlachev died at the age of 27. In his lifetime though, he wrote some terrific music. It reminds me of Tchaikovsky in the fact that it is almost nationalistic--his lyrics concern themselves with the sentiments of the Russian population and the perils they endured and hardships they went through. Very fascinating.

I purchased an album of his through eMusic, and would love if they expanded to include the rest of his catalog. The problem is that Bashlachev never really got into a professional studio, so most of his recordings are from performances or at friends' home studios. Also, he is not well-known outside of Russia, therefore he is an obscure listen.

That said, I really love the tunes. It just carries a sort of sincerity that a lot of music lacks. These guys didn't play for money--they played for the love of music.

I found out about this group probably about a year ago from my sisters who played in the car during a vacation trip. I'm only familiar with their most recent album and a few other songs but they are such a great group! The comedy they put into some of their songs is great but there are also the more serious songs including my favorite, Devil Down Below. I also enjoy listening to some of the traditional bits they put in there as well!

Anyone else a fan of this group?

African artists

I adore African rhythms, and would love to expand my knowledge of African music. Some of my long-time favorites are Youssou N'Dour ( Senegalese vocalist with a huge catalog of excellent music), Geoffrey Oryema (preternaturally gorgeous music from Uganda-born musician) and Angelique Kidjo (High energy, high quality grooves from Benin-born goddess). Does anyone who loves those artists have any recommendations for me? These guys have been around for decades...what's coming out of Africa now that I need to hear?

When are we gonna see some Akira Kobayashi or Yujiro Ishihara on the marketplace? I'd settle for Takakura, Sugawara, Katsu or Kitajima. Zune Mkt needs to expand it's library or at least make some of the content "available".

If you would like to hear a good world genre band you should try Gypsyfoot. They are a band from my home town and I do not think they have much promotion. Just try one of their songs, your bound to fall in love with all of them!
