The Zune Social song posting to one's profile should not be impeded by what kind of media one listens to. Any song, regardless of its codec and wrapper, should upload its ID3 tag info to one's Zune Social profile. As long as the info checks out with the AMG music guide, then it should still post to your profile, regardless of the fact that the file is in AAC.
I use AAC over .mp3, because it's simply a better standard, and it encodes at a much higher audio quality at low bitrates, than the older .mp3 format.
The Zune device supports the format. The Zune software supports the format. The Zune social should support the format. The ID3 data is the same, regardless of what codec you use. The Zune software recognizes it. It should also report the plays of this file to the Zune social profile.
It just doesn't make sense not having full functionality with the Zune social site, with a file format that's fully supported by both the Zune device, and software.
Even the Xbox 360 has full AAC support, with an additional codec install!
90% of my song plays are reported to my account, because they're in unprotected AAC format. It really puts a damper on my Social activity, and I'd imagine that it would for a large portion of the Zune users who use the AAC codec.
Is this a problem for anyone else?
I don't even use .wma . So I don't know if it's supported in the Zune social site. I'd imagine so, because it's Microsoft's own proprietary format. If not, this should have Zune Social support as well. All supported audio codecs should have Zune social support, if the ID3 tag info is verifiable by the AMG music guide.
