media player 11- why the **** not compatible?
I used to have a 1gb sansa mp3 player and used the "sync" tab and NEVER had any problems, easy, intuitive and pretty fast.
I got a zune for chistmas hoping it would be the same way, no, the computer doesn't recognize it as a hard drive.
So i installed the "ZUNE" software easily from the cd, and found the zune quikly. Then it all went down hill. i tried syncing some songs, then changed my mind and decided i didn't want to add all those songs, so i hit "stop sync". ok, so i go back to my music collection try to add more music, and it adds the stuff i didn't want before. couldn't stop that from happening, oh well. try to add some videos, takes forever for it even to recognize i wanted to sync them. then, while "converting" file goes from 0 to 50 to 94 to 84 to 1, then freezes. after i rebooted, did nearly the same thing except instead of freezing the files were on there all of the sudden.

My questions:
a)why can't you use media player?--was there any benefit for the consumer, the company to make a whole new program thats seems way worse to me?
b)why can't i actually stop it from syncing? (remove from sync list???)

They broke the media player and forced URGE out of buisness in favor of releasing an almost carbon copy that didn't really work that well.  Why Rhapsody bought URGE instead of it being rolled into Zune boggle's my mind...though I don't get why they dropped xp x64 support either...guess my $ isn't green enough.

One can only guess that it's all about branding. They don't want people to confuse/fuse the two... It's like Zune isn't a Microsoft product, or if it is, it's not like the rest. I don't agree with it, because I personally find WMP11 (which I never used prior to Zune) much better than Zune software.

So if they continue to use the WMP platform we have to wait at least a year for updates..........yeah okay sure w'e.  I'll take the flexibility of the zune software knowing it has it's own team working on it instead of a borrowed program from another MS Team that only does any major updating once a year.

My guess is that they're already having enough legal issues with their pre-loaded software on windows.  I don't know, but it seems to make sense that they're worried about another monopoly suit if they add the zune compatibility/main cpu software support to WM11..  Otherwise, I have no idea.  I rip from wm11, then launch zune and synch.. it's a hassle, but not a huge one.. although it would be nice if I didn't have to re-do my playlists..

the legality wasn't the issue as the previous zune software was WMP11....it was just a specialized WMP11 with Zune Marketplace and Zune Sync only.

It seems like they could just make the Zune functionality a plug-in for WMP to avoid the legal issues and maintain the plug-in independently to avoid the slow updates.  Both problems corrected without us having to use redundant software from the same company.
