Software says videos are taking up more space than they are!
I purchased a Zune Originals last month and I've been extremely happy with it. Recently however, I've been having a bit of a problem. I don't know if it has to do with syncing or what, but that seems the most likely problem.

I've been adding and deleting a lot of videos, and now it's been saying I have over 11 gigs of space occupied by videos. I don't have nearly that many videos on the device though, and in fact, when I go to settings> sync groups, it has videos only occupy 621.61MB. It's a problem because it's difficult to add all of the videos that I want to add. I really have no clue how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried resyncing the videos?  that shouldn't take long, if you only have 621 MB of video

although I'm not sure if sync groups gives an accurate description of how much space your videos take up

I'm also operating on conjecture here, so I'm not sure what you should do besides messing around with syncing options, settings, and the video files themselves to see what works

What I found I had to do was format the Zune. Kind of annoying, but hopefully it won't happen again.

I am having the exact same issue with my Zune HD 16gig.  I had the problem once before and had to erase my zune to get it to fix itself.  I really don't want to have to do this every time this happens.  Anyone have any solution for this?

Same issue here, 16GB model. I don't have any videos on the unit at all now, but it still says videos are taking up 2.2GB of space.

I'd like to know how to get that space back ?

re: Software says videos are taking up more space than they are!

I added a post back in September right after the Zune 4.0 software came out about this issue:  http://forums.zune.net/524124/ShowPost.aspx  However, I never got a reply from anyone.

Even after erasing the device and re-sync'ing all the data, the problem reoccurred within a day or two of sync'ing.  The only temporary workaround that I have been using is to:

  1.  From the Zune Software, click on Setting and the go into the Sync Options for the Device.  Change the Video setting to Manually Sync and click OK.
  2. Sync the Device and then close the software.
  3. Re-open the Software and resync the device.  The overall space available is now correct, however Video space will show nothing and any video on the device prior setting sync to Manual will be reported under the Reserved Space (since the setting is set to Manual).
    • Any video on the device prior setting sync to Manual will need to be deleted manually to remove from the Reserved Space.
    • You can set the Video setting back to All or Items I Choose and any newly sync'ed video will show up as Video in the Summary page on the Zune software.  However, I found in after a few syncs of video that the problem comes back and you will need to do these steps again.

I hope someone from the Zune team is aware of problem and working on fix to this issue as we discuss this.  I hope we don't have to wait a whole year for another new version of the software to fix the issue.  None of the prior versions of the Zune software ever had this issue.
