Computer recognizes connected Zune but Zune software does not
I plug in my Zune and my computer says all systems are go, it appears in the list of external hardware. But the Zune software acts like nothing's there, and the actual Zune player says it's charging, but doesn't say it's connected. What possible reason would it not read the player when the computer does? Does this have anything to do with the player refusing to play music that I bought because of "expired media usage rights"? I just want to play the music I paid in full for.

Did you ever find something that worked?  My Zune stopped syncing Oct.20, 2009.  As yours, my PC recognizes Zune is connected (i could even charge it) but the software doesnt.  The only music i can play is music that i uploaded myself. anyone, can you help out?

No, unfortunately I haven't. The software very briefly recognized the device, but wouldn't let me do anything with it. It gave me a strange message that I don't remember. Now it's gone back to not working at all. I really need help on this, my Zune is virtually useless right now until this gets fixed.

mine did the same thing and i contacted support and shipped it in for service. I then recieved an e-mail saying they were sending me a refurbished zune.i sent a  120 gb zune and they sent me an 8 gb. i again contacted support and they gave me another label to send the wrong zune back and they would send me a new 120 zune. well they recieved it about 3 weeks ago and i have yet to get my or any other zune back. not even a phone call or e-mail.just wanted to let you know you could contact support and if your player is in warranty they supposedly will fix it for free, but thats yet to be seen.

Okay, the connection problem is solved, but now I have a new one. After restarting both the Zune and my computer, the software recognizes the Zune. But when I disconnect, the message it says for every downloaded song is "This item is missing or can't be played." Yeah, that's informative. How do I fix this?

I'm having that issue as well, except my computer will only recognize my zune for a brief few seconds and then not recognize it.

Why the complete lack of support from the Zune team? It's unfair, rude, and almost tantamount to theft seeing as we paid money for this service and get nothing in return.

You're total right my problem is worst. actually I can not download the new software you believe that? that's quite ridiculous and that's why I quit using ZUNE and I'll get the new Ipod touch. You reach that support people you waste your time and results are zero
