re: Needs hlp on Digital copy movies...
Believe me, I hate this just as much as you do.  Here is the problem.

When you purchase these DVDs that offer a digital copy, they give you the option of either selecting the iTunes version or Windows Media Version to download onto your computer.  The problem when you download the WMV version is that the Zune does not allow you to sync or play the device on your Zune.  I know what you're thinking, "But wait, WMV is a MICROSOFT file format and Zune is a microsoft product, why don't the two work together?"  I don't know the answer, but it is nonetheless retarded that the two can't work together.

Zune, please fix this problem with the DVD digital copies.  If I don't want an iPod, but want to play the WMV format digital copies on a portable media player device, then I have to purchase Windows "Play for Sure" devices such as ones offered by Creative Labs or Sony.  Lately, I have been considering getting my girlfriend a media player so she can watch her favorite Pixar movies (via the digital copy provided by the DVD) whenever we go on road trips, however in order to do so I either have to burn the DVD (which makes buying a DVD with a digital copy pointless and a waste of money) or buy a Sony or Creative Labs portable media player.

Please fix this problem.  In a sense, whatever it is costing Microsoft to get these licenses to have the studios offer a WMV format copy of the movies is simply a waste of money.  I challenge you to see how many people who buy these DVDs with digital copies choose the iTunes digital copy over the WMV copy.  Because one thing is for sure, those other portable media players have a small share of the market so I think the answer to the previous question is obvious.

re: Needs hlp on Digital copy movies...
Come on guys........there's got to be a solution to this.  All you're doing is losing money.  Either fix this problem (by making the WMV digital copies playable on the Zune, thereby making the zune relevant) or just don't offer WMV versions of the digital copy.  You guys got to be wasting money by soliciting studios to allow you to make digital copies and then not being able to play it on zune devices and instead forcing customers to buy other portable media players to play these WMV copies (such as Sony or Creative labs media players).

Here's another hare brained idea:  Either fix this little problem, stop offering WMV copies, or get agreements with studios to allow you to offer the content through the Zune marketplace (spend money instead on this solution instead of the digital copy distribution).

re: Needs hlp on Digital copy movies...
I bought the Zune HD thinking that I would be able to watch all the Digital Copy movies that I have, and just found out this weekend that I can't.  I'm very disappointed, and if I could I'd return it.  It is incomprehensible that this device does not recognize it.  What a total waste of my money!

re: Needs hlp on Digital copy movies...

The movie providers so far do not claim Zune device support for the current digital copy solutions.  As mentioned in other threads, feel free to contact the folks that sold you those digital copy products and offer feedback that you'd like Zune support.  They are the ones that are attempting to sell you 'added value'... until there is significant demand, there is little reason for anyone to work out a solution.

The fact is, the Zune device/ecosystem is not part of the failed PlaysForSure/Windows Media Player initiative by design...

Sure, it sucks digital copy is not an option... but hey... it shouldn't really be a surprise.

re: Needs hlp on Digital copy movies...

So I am assuming that you recommend that we contact the movie studios directly and make sure our voices are heard?

Alrighty, if that the case then we need to seriously get some online petitions here and make sure this solution is resolved.  However, considering that this issue has been beaten to death, why wasn't the Zune HD made capable of playing these files?  Microsoft created the WMV format, yet you guys can't come up with some device/software update to allow digital copy playback on the zune?  Even if zune users are able to get the major studios to finally offer digital copies that are zune supportive, what about the content that's already out there?

If gaining market share in the portable media player market is important to microsoft, then there needs to be talks between the studios and microsoft to resolve this issue.  Otherwise, you're going to have upset users who, just like the one above, buy a product but only later realize this digital copy problem.  All you're going to do is leave a bitter taste in everyone's mouth that they will then tell their friends about and lead to some bad word-of-mouth marketing.  Not something you want to do right before the holiday shopping season.

I'll say it again, please fix it Microsoft.
