30 gig keeps restarting then says its dead when its fully charged
My Zune keeps restarting over and over and over again only when its connected to my computer. When its connected to my computer it cant sync because it'll start restarting again. When I disconnect the device it cuts off and wont turn on saying its dead. If anyone has this problem and fixed it or would like to just help me out I'd appreciate it.

My 8gb is also restarting the same way. I have searched the net but the answer still has not been found.

I'm having some what of the same problem with my 8gb. It shuts off with 3/4 battery left and then when i try to restart it the player says the battery is dead. I've called Customer Support once and they said to just "jump start" the player but that hasn't worked. I'm tempted to just send it in and get a new one from Microsoft.

Fixed mine today. Not sure the same thing will work for you but it did the trick for me.

The way I did it was when it is turning itself back on hold down both the back button and the pause/play button. This brings up the, I guess it is the zune software menu. It should come up with a black screen with the number 1 in a circle at the top and some writing saying what this screen is for. IF you hit the pad to the right it will cycle to the next page with the number 2 in a circle. this is the screen you want to be on. plug it up to the computer with zune running on your pc.

It will want to update. click yes or update. And it will start the process. The problem has been for me that the player will want to turn off and on during this part. The thing that worked for me was, while it is on and changes on the player from your  main music menu to the "updating don't disconnect screen"
Hold down both back and Pause play buttons. There is a load bar at the bottom of the screen on your zune player that shows the progress of the download. When the bar fills the zune will restart. let go, let it reboot and then when the screen changes again hold down both buttons. repeat it i think it took three times on my zune to download all the updates.  It has not done the on and off thing since i did that this morning.

I hope this works for you guys.

But that seems to be just one of my problems I believe the pad is going out on mine so I might just send mine back to The factory anyway

Re: the 8GB battery --

This almost sounds like a battery conditioning issue.  Rechargeable batteries just suddenly stop when they die.  The system doesn't know when its fully charged or depleted, so it has to guess by using its chip to see when it can't charge any more and when it shuts the device off.

Have you tried just charging it to full, fully discharging it, and repeating?  This used to work for my old cell phone (Hitachi G1000) and has worked on other devices as well.

re: 30 gig keeps restarting then says its dead when its fully charged

my 80 gig 1st gen. is doing the same exact thing.

SO, i tried the suggestion about holding buttons and such but with no luck whatsoever.  It just keeps on restarting.  When i try to 'restart' withe the (back) button and (up) direction it simply shuts off.

Also, recharging the battery to full won't work since it won't even stop resetting long enough for my computer to recognize it and charge it.  So maybe i can just let it spaz-out until it really is dead so that i can start from there.

* just a thought*.  This began late last night while i was listening to a podcast on headphones.  It started by pausing every 10-15 seconds and continue playing where it left off.  Today, it just decided to turn on me.  But i KNOW that i was charged ....hmm..

I took my Z30 apart when the drive inside died and the device kept restarting like this when I unplugged the battery and didn't insert it correctly.  Can you open the device and remove the battery (and/or replace it)?

The Z30 uses the same battery as the iPod 5G 60GB, so those batteries are relatively cheap online (under $10)

I'm having the same problem with the 8 gig when the indicator is showing 90% life.  It's been doing this since it was new, and even after a request for a repair VIA RMA they never solved anything.  I really wish Microsoft would add email tech support as well, considering it's 2009.
