I can't merge songs into the same album...

So, here's the problem. If I have two or more songs that are labeled with different artists, but I want to merge them under one artist, my software will not allow it.

EXAMPLE: I downloaded some demo tracks off of the blogosphere for Fleet Foxes lead singer Robin Pecknold's solo project White Antelope, and since I didn't get them all in the same place, they have different tags for Artist. I tried to manually edit the artist by using Right Click>Edit. When I finished, a dialog box comes up that says "Can't update now. Try again later." And it's been saying that for the past week.

I then tried to click and drag the songs to the properly labeled Artist, and then it just doesn't do anything. I've also tried to rename the Artist for the improperly labeled songs to that of the correct Artist by using Right Click>Rename, which also seems to do nothing.

I've had no problems of this sort until only two or three days ago. Any suggestions?

Have you tried going to: Settings>Software>Metadata and Ratings, then unchecking the box-Automatically update album art and metadata. ?
If that fails then you could right click on the album you would like to add the songs that rightfully belong in it to and select "find album info", then search the most relevant content, pick the right result and hopefully solve your problem.

I have the same issue. I can no longer drag a album over to a different genre...A pop up asks " if i want to change genre X for Genre y" ....I say yes and nothing...Same with merging albums, i have always been able to do this....I noticed another user has the same issue but no replies....Hope we can figure it out....Any Help from the mods would be appreciated.

If your Zune collection starts misbehaving in the software, you might have some corruption.  Regrettably, the only thing you might be able to do to fix it is to reset the collection database.  You won't lose content, but you'll lose your settings and it'll re-index your files like a new user.

I want to thank you for that great tip. I have actually reinstalled many times with the same issue coming back. Now that i ran the " reset"  file, it took 10 seconds to fix days of frustration. It took about 5 minutes to get back up and running.....Now on to cleaning up my music catalog.

A little known fact-  the tool resets a file that the zune software creates and uses to manage your collection and settings.  Reinstalling  the software does not remove or replace this file, so that you can do a reinstall without losing your playcounts, settings, etc.  (This was MS trying to do a 'good' thing...)

Not sure what you are talking about.  Why would you have to "re-edit" all your songs?
