Zune abroad

Hi.

I'm doing a project on Zune's potential in the UK (and other EU countries), which will hopefully justfiy a possible launch abroad.

If members located abroad (outside North America) could answer these three quick questions it would be a great help.

Q1. Which country are you located in?

Q2. Do you already have a zune device? If not would you consider purchasing one if Microsoft did sell it in your country?

Q3. How many people do you know (in your country) who already owns a Zune device?

Thanks in advance

Deniz

Q1. I'm from the Netherlands
Q2. I don't but I will import one when the bugs are fixed (because I won't be able to sent it in for repair since I'm not from the US)
Q3. No one I know has one

Your answer to Q2 doesn't make much sense...bugs are fixed in software updates, not repairs.  Is that what you really meant?

Hm you're totally right, that sentence doesn't make any sense, but what I meant to say is that I won't be able to contact the helpdesk at all, so when I need a specific issue to be fixed (like the problems people are having with marketplace downloads) they won't help me because I'm not from the US.

Thanks for your answers.

I agree with you on the repair point.

The only reason why I haven't purchased one is because it would be too much hassle to send it back to a friend in America to get it fixed if there happened to be any hardware issues.

hopefully there will be 50 or more replies to this so I can jsutify it in my project...

Going to survey people around central london soon..
hope they actually stop and answer rather than just walk past (like i normally do)

you may want to add some questions-
1) if they would (or would not) buy a zune, why?
2) do they know anything about the marketplace, and how is that a factor in their decision?
3) are they aware of the zune pass?
This way you can start to analyze not just raw knowledge of the existence of the zune, but also reasons why or why not it would be popular.

The additional questions would add more depth.
I did originally want to ask more questions but thought that too many questions could put people of from replying. That's the reason I went with 3 short answer questions.

Thanks for your input, its much appreciated, and I will definitely be asking more in-depth questions on the email questionnaire I plan to send out.

Yes- too many questions will cause folks to abandon the survey.   That is always a challenge.
So, it depends on what your objective is...  are you measuring awareness?  If so, your original questions can measure that- and of course since the device is not supported in the EU yet, there is no advertising, and probably little news coverage.  Awareness is unlikely to be high at all...
Or, are you measuring interest?  If so, that begs questions on the 'why'.
(Sorry- long time marketing geek here.)
Cheers.

P.S. it might be interesting if you posed a few (slightly different!) questions in the creative and iPod forums...  but stand back so you don't get hit too hard!

re: Zune abroad
I always enjoy getting advice.. too many people these days do not listen to anyone but themselves.

I am currently in my 4 and final year of my university degree and your comments are really helpful.

I thought about the ipod forums as I'm in one that has a lot of members, however, they tend to get childish when someone criticizes their beloved apple, or mentions a rival in good context. I doubt I'll get many replies before it gets out of control, and personally I don't want to waste my time with the childish members starting arguments.

I must point out that not all the members are like that but even if its a minority, they tend to be the ones posting the most.

that of course is possible.  but you'd be amazed what proper phrasing can accomplish.  In the iPod forum for instance, I'd ask how many folks considered devices from MS, Creative, and Sony (for example,) and what pushed them to choose the iPod.
Anyway, this conversation can go on endlessly...so have fun with your survey (and I'd love to see you publish some results in here someday.)
