"MIcrosoft Zune has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
every time I try to open Zune software, it brings up this message and tells me to send an error report or don't send an error report. I've sent 5 error reports and the problem still  persists. Should I just reinstall the Zune software? I have the 4.0 version and it was working perfectly up until now...I really don't want to reinstall it b/c my computer is so slow, but if that'll fix the problem... I just need to know if it will! thanks.

Yeah, it does it to me too. I tried to reinstall, but the same message shows up right when I try to boot up the installation program.

I don't know what to do :( I need to put more music on there now...

Same problem here.  Last  message was incompatible application.
Problem just started today.  The zune software just stops working and I cant remove the window without restarting the computer.  It won't even stop using Task Manager.  Could this be an update problem?
I uninstalled Zune and re-installed it but that didn't make a difference
I'm running Win7 64 bit Ultimate
Intel E6300 processor - 2.8 ghz dual core
2 gigs memory
Intel D41MJ motherboard with updated video drivers

re: "MIcrosoft Zune has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
All of a sudden I started having this problem.  It was driving me nuts, but I finally fixed it.  I don't know if this will help you, but it's worth trying.  From Control Panel (in Vista, I don't know about other versions...) I went to "System Maintenance," then "Problem Reports and Solutions."  From there, it's "View Problem History," and scroll down to "Microsoft Zune."  I found the crash from the time it happened, right clicked it, and selected "View Problem Details."  It listed the fault module as "VSFilter.dll,"  which I googled and found it has to do with DVD subtitles, and was safe to delete.  After deleting it and restarting, the problem disappeared.  I hope that maybe you can track down the cause of your crash using this.  I hope I've helped you!

Thanks for the suggestion.  Took a look and it tells me the fault module is StackHash with several extensions, like StackHash_bedc.
What the heck is that?

Hey Batfan,

Sorry I don't know what StackHash is either.  I did some digging, and it causes trouble for lots of people in other situations, but it seems to baffle everyone.  Wish I could help you...
