Question regarding the internet on the ZHD

Ok, my Zune is able to connect to my school's internet. I just want to know...why does the ZHD work at some colleges but not others?

re: Question regarding the internet on the ZHD
Surf around this forum for more information, you'll find plenty on this issue.

It has to due with both certificate issues and the type of internet offered by colleges. Some colleges do offer WPA, which the Zune HD "supports," but due to network configurations, the Zune does not renew its DHCP lease to the network after it goes to standby or shut down. This causes the network to be "lost," and prevents the device from connecting again.

Another issue is that some colleges offer WEP Enterprise but not WPA public internet; the Zune HD does not currently support WEP Enterprise, and I believe it is being looked at (or possibly worked on) for the upcoming November update.

I keep hearing about a November update, but no one can provide any links that are more than rumor so far...  can you post your source?  All that I know of as 'confirmed' is in the zune HD press release, which previews several apps (apps... not updates...) due 'later this year.'  If there is more info, I sure would like to see it...

Sure thing. After a significant amount of digging, here's what I was able to find:

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/09/zune-hd-plays-casual-games-now-3-d-games-in-november/

This was the ONLY source I could find. I have no idea whether or not it is accurate. Like I said, Microsoft and press releases... * sighs wistfully *

Yup-  the problem with that is it's only about apps, not an update.  So, maybe there will be both, or maybe just more apps....

I think given all the feedback on these forums, there's no way Microsoft will just release some new apps for their November update. This is one of the biggest software updates of the year for Microsoft; back in 08 (or 07, I forget) they came out with a huge update for the Zune as well, I believe it was 2.5 or 3.0 or something like that. Point being, November has historically been a big month for Microsoft, and I don't see why that would suddenly change now.

except that they just had a major (triple) release in september.  4.0 software client, and firmware updates for 1st and 2nd gen, plus HD.  I hope you are right and I am wrong...but I am not expecting more than apps.

True, but a lot of the complaints about the firmware have been bug reports - as in, this feature is BROKEN. This isn't the sort of thing to be ignored and picked up a year later, I'm sure they have some sort of fix in store for a lot of these wifi issues.
