Zune duplicates music - frustrated - Please help!

Ok - so I finally got the whole campact to restore issue worked out. Then as I go through my collection I see that music is duplicated and so are pictures, at least 80% of my files. I checked the properties of each and they show the same file location. No matter what I do I cannot get the duplicates to go away. UGH!! BTW - I'm running Win7

So here's what I have done (and it has ended up involving over 10hrs of time trying to figure this out - to say the least I'm more than irritated):

  • Because I am running Win7 I figured it had something to do with the libraries
  • So I removed My Music/My Pictures/My Videos from the libraries
  • Then I Uninstalled and reinstalled Zune according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929358
  • Upon restart the duplicates remained

  • First I removed the folders to be monitored
  • Then attempted to remove the music from the collection, however only some of it would remove the rest just stayed (I did choose to remove files from collection and computer)
  • Then I Uninstalled Zune and Reinstalled Zune according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929358
  • After I restarted the duplicates were still there

  • Next I deleted all of my music/pictures/videos files from the computer, disconnected all external hard drive connections
  • I uninstalled Zune and reinstalled according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929358
  • I then moved my music/pics/videos back
  • Duplicates still appeared

  • I then deleted all of my music/pictures/videos files from the computer (still no other sources connected)
  • I uninstalled Zune and resinstalled according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929358
  • Opened Zune up and it has approximately the correct number of songs, still duplicates - I'm not signed in and it shows this with no music in any folders (they only play of course the first 30 secs or so of the song); also it remembers all of my pic locations, though no pictures will show there are placeholders for each one with the correct file names

So I guess my question is two parts: Where in the world is Zune storing my music and picture info that it remembers it? Second, how on earth do I get rid of the duplicates? oh, and I guess I do have a third, How can I force Zune to forget the Music and pictures it seems to remember and add them back from the saved location?

Please help!

I had replied to my own post so that others wouldn't have to search far to fix this issue, for whatever reason apparently my post didn't stick. Anyway, after I searched through the forums I found out that when your Zune library gets out of synch and you see duplicate songs you need to download Microsfots Zune media collection reset tool which you can find at:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=86B2A33D-9BF8-45F6-89FF-B9A6236AA37D&displaylang=en

Download this and run it on your computer and it will fix the problem. Hope this helps and others don't have to search far for the answers like I did.
