Did you leave it to charge until it was completely full before even attempting to use it the first time?

yea i charged mine fully up the first time. Not even the first time but i do every time and then wait till it's in the red before recharge.

This is crazy Microsoft says it can play videos for 8.5 hours and i can't even get through a 2 hour football game video, yes wifi off, and i keep the volume low. this is crazzzy, defective zune? but if it was why would the other guy have the same problem...

It's a new product...as such you're bound to run into more issues with the first released devices as opposed to ones made later in the manufacturing cycle. That explains 2 (or probably more) people have the same issue out there.

Just out of curiosity is your screen brightness turned down as well?

If it's still not right after turning down the brightness then I'd call them up and see if you can get a new one.

wait when you say don't use till fully charged for the first time in till it's fully charged is it okay to be syncing and updating it while it's charging for the first time?

It seems that on mine the battery indicator is just off.  After the battery icon shows full it still charges for an hour or so.
Two hours of use the icon still shows full and after i got a low battery warning I watched two hours of video before it turned off.

Yup that's fine as long as it's actually still charging.  You just don't want to unplug the device from the port until it shows fully charged (the green indicator for the battery).

So the icon shows green after 2 hours of use? That is weird.

Just to clarify...a full white bar is not fully charged...it turns green when fully charged.  If it seems that far off though fully run the battery down to a point where it won't even turn on (and shows the battery icon on the screen) and then fully charge it.  That usually will reset the charge indicator on any device.

re: Zune battery not all its filled up to be...
I posted that last post when i received my new zune HD and it was charging. Weird thing though when charging it would have the battery icon with scwiggels through it for a few seconds then switch back to white with how ever full it was for a few seconds and keep repeating.

After reading your last post that's weird because I'll charge it till it's green, then as soon as i disconnect it it shows white battery.

Yup it should only show green while it's still plugged in.  Once it's disconnected from power it knows it and switches it to show white :)
