Verizon FiOS, Actiontec MI424WR (rev. E) settings?

Hi,

I've waited and searched for answers to this, and wondered if anyone has come up with a solution to getting consistent WiFi access through Verizon FiOS' router.

I can go into the router's configuration screen, see my Zune HD by MAC address in the Network page, and its IP address via DHCP. However, it's usually labeled "new_device." When I rename the device "Zune_HD" and save the setting, I can gain limited access wirelessly -- weather and Marketplace -- for a brief time, but then the connection seems to fail.

My daughter's iPod has no trouble in this regard; I can see its identification in the Network page. I've tried to reproduce the iPod's network access settings in the router for the Zune HD, but when I try to save those settings, I receive a warning of conflicting port forwarding rules. Then, at some point (perhaps a few hours might pass), the "Zune_HD" identification no longer appears on the router's Network page.

Using the browser to view Internet locations still does not work, unless the Zune HD is directly connected to the computer via sync cable.

I know this is most likely a Verizon FiOS support issue, but before I go through the labyrinth of Verizon support, I wondered if anyone had come up with a possible solution to this issue.

Thanks.

Just an update: Since I hadn't heard anything for a few days after I posted this, I wrote to Verizon FiOS' "customer care" center, and they've ignored my request for assistance, as well.

Don't get me wrong: I do enjoy the Zune HD, particularly the quality of the sound and the clarity of the video. Nevertheless, I feel duped by Microsoft's advertising (a company whose products I usually support).

The reason why thats happening is because I think the device name in general is "new_device". If you change that in the Network Settings, the router will be searching for that specific name, while the Zune is broadcasting the original name.

I wouldnt recommend it, but I think if you play around in the device's settings, you can probably change it.

I'm not sure myself, but it sounds like when you copy all of the settings, you copy the ones that are supposed to be unique for every connected device (IP, etc.) This could be part of the problem.

Let the router establish your connectivity, don't try to change the name.  Verizon's routers are pretty fickle about certain things.  Besides you don't want to screw too much with your router.

After connection is established, go into filter settings and select that device to allow all inbound and outbound traffic.  On my verizon router, for some reason, the default for new wireless devices was set to deny outbound and inbound traffic to the device.  Once I allowed traffic, boom, I was up and running.

Let me throw this twist at you guys:

My ZuneHD internet connection over FIOS router works IF and ONLY IF I have the Zune plugged in to an AC adapter (or directly to the pc, but that's using the pc's connection). If I unplug the device, it throws the "Can't load requested page" message.

Simply having the sync cable connected doesn't do the trick.
