Zune 4.0 Install: Can't get past "Checking for updates..."
Whenever I try to install Zune 4.0, the software hangs at "Checking for updates" and never goes anywhere.  I was able to reinstall the Zune 3.1 software and then select "check for updates," but then I was told that my Zune software was up to date, which is obviously not true.

I'm at a loss.  Can anyone help??

Well this was answered in a ton of other threads.

I would recommend uninstalling the 3.x and download the full package from Downloads for Microsoft.

(http://microsoft.com/downloads) Search up Zune.

I tried that Dante, but still no dice.  Instead of "Checking for Updates," the software simply hangs on "Preparing Computer, Installing Software."

exact same thing is happening to mine i have tried to download it from several sites but no luck. I have unzooned and uninstalled by windows i have tried everything but no success it sucks because i was so siked about this. Finally microsoft was going to blow apple away. Yeah well so far apples first i touch software was so much better and had pratically any faults. just need some help i guess....

This has been my experience so far.  I have it on two laptops(64bit Vista Home Premium and 32bit Vista Ultimate).  It installed fine on the 64 bit laptop and it gets to 99% and stalls on the 32 bit laptop.

Download the full 4.0 software package from Microsoft. It's 464.9 MB but it should not require any updates.

Again, I've tried downloading the full package and the software just hangs while it's "Preparing your computer...."

same problem goes for me
neither updating via software or windows update nor DLing the whole pack works
this is so frustating...can't they just provide something that works?
it's been like that since the very first software came out, nothing but problems with every new release.
as good as the players are, the software sucks big time.

did you ever get it to work?

I'm having the same problem. I've even done full uninstalls and now I can't get any zune software to install on my desktop. this is truly frustrating.

On mine I try to download the software from zune.net and the download comes up as 0 bytes and I cant open it same for the full package wtf...
