Zune 80 - Software update failed, now bricked.
I attempted to update my Zune80 and Zune software to the latest version.  It made it to step 3 of updating my device, but stopped.  Since then it has been inoperable.  I tried restarting the Zune, clearing the Zune, and formatting the Zune.  The error message now states that it cannot update the Zune from recovery mode because the device is full.  Before the update I was about 1/4 full, obviously after formatting the device it should not be giving this error.  I have read that quite a few people are having trouble with the latest updates - but none of the fixes have worked.

I have:
 Restarted
 Rebooted
 Formatted
 Tried all of my USB ports
 Switched my default browsers
 Used my laptop running v3.5


I'm lost; help!

i too have this problem. i updated my zune80 and zune software to the newest version. it worked fine for a day and then i needed to recharge, after i charged if for an hour or so i went back to use it and found that only the backlight came on. so i tried restarting it. zune logo came up, progress bar loaded and then went black with the backlight on. so i tried clearing it, then updating it again and it gets to step 2 before saying not enough space on zune and beforethis i was almost at half full so this doesn't make sense. i tried everything you have and still nothing.

Sorry to hear you are having issues too - but it is good to know that this is not an isolated incident.  Hopefully someone can help us all solve this problem!  Seems like the last update has caused a few issues ...

Same crap with my 120. Too bad microsoft doesn't have an actual help center. Nothing but problems since I bought this thing. Every time I update my zune a little bit of the hard drive disappears into an "other" section. Terrible programing.

If you're leaving music on it and updating everything it can show some of the content that's still there in 'other'. That's why I always clear it out first...then do the update.

i updated my zune 4 to the new software and it worked awsome for a week, i charged it about 2 days ago and took it off the sync cable and when i pressed play it just shut off. i havent been able to get it to turn back on. seems like the zune itself was burned out idk but ive never had an issue until now.

I got the exact same issue...except sometimes it will connect and my computer reads it as a 1 GB Zune (does such thing exist?)  Not 1 GB left...but the maximum capacity of the Zune is just 1 GB

I had the same exact problem and did exactly what you did.  I finally called Microsoft and I had to send my Zune back to them.  They said they would either fix it or send me a new one.  I never had this problem at all until this software update.  From what I have gathered from other Zune users the software update fried the hard drive in the Zune device itself.  I just hope that I don't have to wait too long to get my Zune back.
