Looking for a song that has this sound in it...
Listen to "You Got To Unwind" on Triptych by The Bevis Frond.   The guitar riff, which you can hear most clearly starting at 0:09 and lasting until he starts singing, reminds me of something and I can't for the life of me figure out what.   Not just the tune of it (you can hear that in lots of Byrds-influenced guitar riffs like that in Allison Road by the Gin Blossoms) - but it's the sound that I'm looking for.   Some other song that I remember vaguely has a guitar riff that has that same sound effect in it.    For reference, I was born in '68 so my formative years were late 70s and early 80s so I suspect that's where it's from.  But I listen to a wide variety of stuff so it might be sometime else.

That riff a little before the 9 second mark and continuing into it reminds me almost of the intro guitar bit in "Detroit Rock City" by KISS.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgsoJrzplUI  It starts around the 24 second mark.

Other than that, that distorted tone, to my ears, reminds me more of just a lot of generic 80's metal/rock.

Complicate my ways again.... Anarchy in the Zune Social! :-P
