Zune HD - Screen Becomes Unresponsive
Got my Zune 32gb from amazon today, and am having a problem with the screen freezing (not the device). When it freezes, the home buttons sometimes work, the power button always works, and the media button doesn't do anything. holding the power button for 10 secs does not restart when this happens though, it only turns on the lock. Once the lock is in place I can't unlock it because the screen is frozen.

Anyone else got this problem? Its happened to me about 3 times in the last hour

re: Zune HD - Screen Becomes Unresponsive
Yes, something similar is happening to me.  The hardware buttons are all responsive, but the screen is flaky. Sometimes (rarely) it's very responsive to the smallest touch, other times I get no action unless I put the entire pad of the thumb across the screen and drag slowly, and sometimes that doesn't even work.

I thought perhaps it was the operating system lagging behind because I caught it swiftly flipping through menus and running apps that I had been jabbing at earlier while it was being unresponsive to touch, but I haven't seen that again. Now its just a issue with a lack of screen sensitivity.  I hope HOPING someone would have mentioned a screen calibration feature, but no such luck thus far.  :( Very disappointed.

Well aren't you the lucky one?

haha. yea I also thought it odd there isn't a screen calibration setting. Apparently microsoft is knows for sure everyone of these is coming off the line perfectly calibrated for each individual

I am having the same exact problem.  Microsoft has a kb for this issue (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974299), although it doesn't resolve the issue.

I wonder if these are just fault and I should exchange mine for a different one.

Iv had the same problem with my 32GB from Amazon. Already filled out the return form and sending the old one back.

Does not seem to be a amazon issue as a few people from best buy have had the same problem.

I just posted like this - I have the same issue - if I turn it off and on again, it responds fine for 5 seconds or less then it gets to be  pain to do any scrolling.  If I press very hard I can scroll but its too hard - Im afraid Ill break the screen...  So Im not alone....  (Good or bad, I wonder?)

Has anyone called Microsoft to see if it's a known issue?

Ok, so Microsoft claims heres the fix - (The Battery needs to be jumped as she said).

Plug it in for 30 minutes, then unplug for 5 seconds, then back in for 3 hours.   I dont buy it, but Im going to do it now...  Ill report back as to the failure (I mean, results ...lol)

re: Zune HD - Screen Becomes Unresponsive
I just called Zune support and spoke with the most un-helpful person.

At first he said the accelerometer was broken, of which I responded that it worked fine since I could re-orient pictures.
He then said I just need to restart the device, which I responded that I have to do this every time this happens.
His final response was to re-install the firmware.  I told him it was a ridiculous suggestion, since it's a brand new device and that's what it did when I purchased it, since it had to upgrade to the latest firmware anyway.

I told him others were having this problem, and he basically didn't believe me.

I guess that's what happens when tech support is outsourced to other countries.

Anyway, going to return it to Best Buy today.

re: Zune HD - Screen Becomes Unresponsive
Mine seems to be getting better. I've considered a second to last resort as wiping the device clean, but have not done it yet. The freeze is not as often, but knock on wood haha. The only problem I get out of the screen freeze is that all the physical buttons work (on/off works, not restart), which don't help me. The freeze usually lasts about 1-3 min

Last resort would be to send it in.
