Zune blog

I write a lot of posts about Zune on my blog (http://jamiethomson.spaces.live.com).

It would be cool if all my blog posts in my Zune category automatically appeared on my Zune profile page (http://social.zune.net/member/jamiethomson)

FYI: the link you gave us on your zune profile page directs each person to their own zune profile. You need to copy the link below your zune card. Anywho... the blog thing sounds nice for people who have blogs, to me since I don't really use the spaces.live.com thing, it doesn't really matter to me.

Perhaps integration with open blogging services that allow referencing on other websites. Links to the article, or the entire article could show on one's Zune page. This could easily be done through the rss feeds associated with almost every respectable blog site. A built-in aggregator could be built in for a select few blog sites that do not feature full 3rd-party integration.
Google's Blogger is a good example of a blogger service that's extremely integratable into 3rd party websites, like Digg or Facebook.
You could even submit song listenings, and other things from the Zune social, to your blog, which is then reflected on your Zune social page.

Music blogging is interesting...potentially part of your musical identity. I'm thinking about how we ought to do it, for sure. And I'm planning on starting my own music blog too - I have a couple of blogs already, but none around music, which is obviously a huge part of my life and personal identity. :-)

OK that's cool. Although I'd rather you didn't introduce (yet) another blogging platform. Microsoft already have a blogging platfoom that can be leveraged and, as Mike said as well, you could maybe leverage otherss as well.

I'm thinking that a solely music based blog would be a little useless. That's already the function of your Zune page. What I'm saying is that existing blogs should be able to post onto your Zune profile when adding new content, via RSS feeds, and then you should be able to post your song listening's for the day, or have it automatically done, to your blog, which then shows up with the other stories on your Zune page with the rest of your blog content. This could just be done in the corner of your page, and could either show brief bits from the blog, or just the link and title. The latter is by far easier.

The Zune page should be able to display your blog posts from various select services, using RSS feeds. The more integratable ones like Google's, could show brief story bits. Others could just display the title, date, and link. It's like having an RSS aggregator for the Zune page, that's limited to only certain blogging sites.

Hmm, hadn't thought of that. So what you're saying is you'd use your own profile page as a place to aggregate music blog information you want to read - and potentially share with your friends - and not necessarily be writing your own blog?

I think both things sound interesting...and to you, Jamie, I agree: I don't want to rebuild a platform Microsoft already has, if it's to serve the same purpose.

Exactly. Mainly, it's for your friends. That way, they can use your page as a convenient aggregator for your blog content. I do think you should be able to submit basic things to your blog, which is then in turn reflected on the aggregator on your account. It's just, that there's no purpose in added a stand alone blog service when Microsoft already has one. Just added to ability to aggregate the Microsoft Blog, Google Blog, and other blogs to the Zune social page of a user, where it can then be viewed by their friends/whomever, would be a great feature. It really customizes the page.
Also. If you added the posting of YouTube videos, MetaCafe videos, and links to the users social networking sites/ other sites, all from the Zune page, then that just adds to the customization of the page.
Digg.com is a really good example of blog integration, and minimal profile customizing on the Web 2.0 platform. They let users add all the basic data, including blog integration, and custom links. The rest of the profile is made out of content the user submitts, which is in this case the song listing, and other data the Zune team is looking into integrating in the future.
I'm just saying that people who actively use the Zune site are also heavy blog users/blog readers. To have an aggregator for select blogging services, with maybe even more integration with Microsoft's, would really be a feature that would allow users to customize their profiles, without letting it get out of hand, like on MySpace.
The Zune dev team should really be warry to avoid a move like only integrating Microsoft's blogging service. A general aggegator with enhanced features for the Live blogging service would be a perfectly unbiased and practical solution.

Order an IPod!!!  I agree.  We have tried to order the Zune HD with an inscription on the back 4 times.  Each time the order has been canceled with no explanation.  The only way to communicate with them is through Emai, but they are unable to offer ANY explanation as to why the orders were canceled.  Has Microsoft run out of money, or do they just not care about their customers?  Dumb question.  Now, we have to wait for the fourth time for the pending transaction to clear the account...another 3-5 business days.  ORDER AN IPOD!!!
