Define the Zune Picks
Let me start out by saying that I have come across some good suggestions using the Zune Picks channels.  One thing I would like is an option to define artists that I don't want considered.  Right now I have several slots taken up by tracks that I will never play simply because I don't like the artist.

That would definitely be a good option, I also think that songs already in your collection shouldn't be in the Picks.  There's been many times where there are songs I already have in my collection that take up slots in the Picks.  But, the Picks service has helped me discover many great artists, and I do love it! (So have a Pick service that can be customized by the User and deselect songs [if we don't like them or already have them] that may have been picked so they don't show up again.)

Try rating those tracks with a broken heart and see if they will go away the next time the channel refreshes.

"Sorry, not much in the way of feature updates for the old devices. You've had a great run with them though!"

Wouldn't rating down those tracks have a wider negative effect than simply removing those tracks? I wouldn't want to put a broken heart on a song I like to clear it from my picks only to have that artist's songs not show up anymore.

I'm not sure. I've been broken-hearting all the Michael Jackson songs that keep turning up in my "New For You" and it hasn't stemmed the tide yet.

all i have in my channels is hip hop...what if i want rock? how do i do that?
