re: Zune 4 Software Will Not Allow Me To Sign In

Whenever I click on the "Sign In" area of the new Zune 4 software, I get the following message:

mine says i can't log in because i can't access the server.  help!

Same here but I'm not worried about it. Alot of things aren't functioning yet. I'm giving them 72 hours to fix everthing cause this was a lot of work to do and the reformatted everything. So give them time to get the bugs out.

Ok, guys! I'm here to help:

First guy: The reason why you can't log in is probably because you are either canadian, south american, or in some other country other than the usa. If this is not the case it is a simple fix. Like the Zune software says: Go to your desktop > Start > Control Panel > Region and Language. Now change your location to the USA or somewhere within it. (It shouldn't matter) That should fix your problem.

As for the others in here you need to relax. The reason why is because there are MILLIONS of people just now waking up and realizing that the Zune HD is out, going to buy it, and updating their own software. With millions of people signing in and out of the new software there are chances for people to get bumped. After installing your new 4.0 Software update exit out of the program, then re-enter it. try and sign in up top. That should work. There is a glitch in the installing package with the new 4.0 software where it will not allow you to link your zune to your account ONLY during install. restarting the program should work.

I am currently in Australia, however both my Windows Live account and my Windows 7 computer have their regional settings in the USA. The only thing not in the USA is my ISP.

Secondly, I have several Australian mates who are having no problems logging into their respective Zune accounts using Zune 4 software from Australia.

Well it just gets stranger and stranger.  I uninstalled the Zune 4 software and re-installed theZune 3 software.  Zune 3 allows me to log into my Zune account from within the player, however when I upgrade the Zune 3 player to Zune 4, it refuses to let me sign in, andgives me the error message I see (linked in in the first post of this thread).

Another stange thing is that even though the Zune 4 software will not let me log into my established Dechahz account, it allows me to setup an entirely new account from within the software.

I am in Canada, and my Live account is Canadian and my pc's location is Canada. I could log in no problem with 3.x software, but the new 4.0 spits out this error.

Yes I found out my problem.  I used to live in Canada.  I purchased a Zune 120 while I was there, and setup my DechahZ account with my Canadian address.  I now live in Australia (since last July).  In Australia I had my Win 7 based computer set to Australia in the Regional Settings.  With Zune 3 software this logged in without problems, but with Zune 4 software this is a no no.  I finally changed the regional settings back to Canada and finally I can get back into my account from the Zune player software.  Though I notice that I have now lost the Marketplace menu option in the Zune player software.  Oh well, I never could buy anything from it anyway, but I did like checking out the Channels occasionally to find new music.

Exact same issue. I am in Canada, my regional settings had to be switched to Canada on my PC to sign in, which is just ridiculous. Now I have lost the marketplace. Maybe I couldn't buy from the marketplace but I could subscribe to free podcasts from there. Now I can't even do that, I have to enter them by url.

It also it completely screwed up my current podcast subscriptions. I ended up unsubscribing and deleting all my podcasts but if I just add one podcast it downloads all the episodes for all the podcasts I had previously subscribed to.

Well, I am in the US and nothing has changed in my settings bit still can't sign in, still get the error message and can't see all the options in the software.

I'm also in the US and can't sign in... and I'm not even getting an error message about it.  The software just sits there and endlessly says "Signing in..." until it eventually locks up.

It also won't recognize either of my Zune's (the HD or the 8GB) so I can only use what's already on my 8GB and can't use the HD at all.

I totally forgot about Podcasts, losing access to the Podcast is unacceptable.  People who purchased their Zune hardware legitimately in Canada should not be bared from the Podcast section of the Zune Marketplace.
