Zune HD with Stylist Pen?

I have just moved into the Zune HD world.  The internet thing is okay but the little key pad is way too small for me to use.  Can I OR has anyone tried to use a Stylist Pen (like a PDA) with this kay pad feature?  Any sugestions?

By the way - The Zune HD 32 is really cool!  I never looked at any of the mp3 players after I got my first gen iPod nano - it did all I wanted, any of the other media devises provided none of the features I wanted until the Zune HD hit the market.  The HD - Video is good - The HD radio is good - The Wi-Fi is good and of course, the music.  None of the other media players had these features all in one unless I wanted to get a phone too but I do not need another phone or another contract.

Zune tech it a home run with this one - now I am waiting for extended features with software upgrades.

re: Zune HD with Stylist Pen?

I agree, the internet keypad is a bit of a pain. I spent ten minutes just trying to type my login information in. I just tried to use a stylus pen (from my Nintendo DS) on the screen and it did not work. It you tilt it sideways, the keypad should be horizontial though sometimes I cannot get it to turn horizontial.

I'm not too impressed with the wi-fi myself. But still, I'd rather use my computer for the internet than a small handheld device. Beautiful player though. I love it!

The screen is based on positive/negative charge so no material other than your finger (or other parts of body) will work.  Also for the guy who says sometimes tilting does not work, when the keyboard is open in vertical view and you tilt it nothing will happen.  Hide the keyboard than tilt and open the keyboard again.  When keyboard is open tilt does not work.  This is done so when your moving the keyboard does not tilt when your trying to type.. Also the keyboard is not bad at all you just gotta get used to it.  I personally like it.

re: Zune HD with Stylist Pen?
I purchased a pack of three pens for the Nintendo DS yesterday, gave it a try and it's a no go.  I spent some time trying to get used to the mini-mini pad last night.  I will find this usfull to check emails but for me it taks to long to make repairs to my fat finger mistakes.  I will use the laptop to d real email.  I tried to register my Zune thru the Zune interface last night - no way was that going to happen.  This comment has not chainged my opinion of my Zune at all, I really like it.  We watched Coroline on the HD TV last night and it was great, well the Zune was great, didn't care much for the movie, too weird.

Lol, yeah I told you it wouldn't work.  Zune HD uses capacitive touch screen technology, only human contact works with it.  The one that works with a stylus is called resistive.

Okay, you were correct.  I was out the door before seeing your post.  I live next door to a best buy - I picked up a optical cable to hook up the A/V to the home theater - thought I would give it a try for 5.00.  Oh well.

You can use it with a stylus but it will have to be made from something conductive and the tip needs to be fairly wide.. I just tried with the side of an unpainted metal stylus from one of my palm handhelds and it works quite well actually... just needs to be modified for comfort.   ( i wouldn't recommend trying it without a screen protector on!)

Yes you need conductive material.  Your skin is conductive.  The name of this touch technology kind of gives it away.  But I dont recommend poking your screen with other conductive materials because it was meant for your fingers not something else... What ever, do it if you want, just know if you break it Microsoft is not gonna even going to listen to you because its going to be your own fault.

re: Zune HD with Stylist Pen?

AH! I would really suggest NOT trying to use a stylus or anything but your finger on the Zune HD. They are not designed for pens or anything other than your finger, and worst case senario you're going to scratch or damage the screen.

You only use a stylus for resistive touch screens which would by actually flexing the screen and pushing together two layers of conductive materials. Resistive screen are much more resilient to physical abuse, and a high pressure in such a small point may damage the glass screen on the Zune HD. Capacitive screens like the one in the Zune HD only need a very light touch from a finger, and even if you added more pressue, it would be spaced out over your soft finger not a single point of a stylus.

In anycase, I would be mortified to use a stylus on a Zune HD screen, especially a metal one that someone suggested.

You are all correct about the way the screen works but they do make a capacitive stylus I'm getting one for Christmas from my wife .
It is made for the I phone screen which I believe works the same just isn't OLED here is a link to it at Think Geek  I hope its ok to post links in this forum my apologies if this isn't so .   http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/cellphone/a31f/

Make sure you just don't tap the letter your try to type. This is impossible without tons of mistakes.

Touch and hold near the letter and adjust your finger position until you see the correct letter expand, then let go.  This way it is impossible to fat finger a letter because you know what letter will appear when you remove your finger from the keyboard.
