please add greater sorting features for video
i've looked around, and it's difficult to see if this has been addressed specifically, although i 'm sure it has.  still, i'd like to add my weight behind the wish for this functionality.  i really want the ability to sort videos by video type (music video, movie, tv, etc), artist (this is very important for me), and genre.  i have quite a few music videos, and it is very frustrating that they are all listed seperately rather than grouped together as music is.

The new Zune software does not do this (as yet), however on the Zune itself it can sort by type (movies, music videos, tv shows).  You will need to make sure the metadata for the .wmv (not mp4) is correct.  There are a few programs out, I suggest looking into one called dSharpie.

yea, i know that the software doesn't do this.  that was my point for posting this.  i know the zune team reads the forum, and i just wanted to make sure they knew people wanted this feature.  i currently use zmeta for editing the metadata, but it does me no good for sorting by artist anywhere, software or player.  this seems to be pretty obvious functionality, and it would be nice (and obvious) if it was added in the next update.

I hope they bring it back as well.  Never heard of zmeta, have to check that out.  Too bad noone could 'hack' 1.x software to work on 2.x Zune.  Well I'm sure the Zune Team knows and hopefully before the end of the year, we'll get something.

Enjoy.

zmeta is a simple app written by one of the guys over at zuneboards.com.  it will edit the metadata of any file the zune will play.  of course there are other apps that do the same thing, but this one is really light while still being functional.  check it out.

re: please add greater sorting features for video

I'm typically the first one to get grumpy when people start posting me too everywhere however, I’ve got to say that only being able to sort videos by name and date added is pretty useless. Date added is fairly random and blocky. Name is even worse; all of the shows recorded by Media Center get sorted by the episode title, not the show name. That’s about as backwards as it gets. There’s a couple hundred entries in my video list and I can’t find a thing without hunting line by line. Seriously, who could honestly say these two sorts are all they need?

Please change/enhance the video sorting functionality!

I would love if they just added the simple option of allowing us to view them by folder like with the images. I mean, why not? I have TV series on there, aside from some random videos, that would be better off in their respective folders, THEN sorted by name. Seems simple enough.

Dead Jim,

I'm not 100% sure what exactly the issue is but I'll take a shot. If you go to Collection-Videos, you can click on ALL on the top right. Then on top left, it displays "# Videos <by date added/title/category/content type" - you can click on this and toggle through each. Or in your case, click on "Music" on top right and same thing here in top left - click on "# Videos by artist/content type/date added/title/genre". Does this help?
