Regional Sign-In Issues

Currently, Zune is only supported in the US and Canada and the software is designed to not let you sign in in other countries.

If you're in the US and Canada and you're getting one of the following error messages:

Error 1 Image http://s171876778.onlinehome.us/zune/signinerror1.png

Error 2 Image http://s171876778.onlinehome.us/zune/signinerror2.png

You need to verify the following:

The country that your ZuneTag is associated with, which you can find by clicking "My Contact Information" on https://live.zune.net/en-US/accounts/AccountMgmtHome.aspx needs to match the location settings on your PC both in the format field and the location setting.

Vista/Windows 7 Country & Language Settings

Go to control panel, regional & language options and verify that you format and location are set to the right country.

re: Regional Sign-In Issues
Ok, I am able to log in, thanks for making this comprehensive guide! One last thing, why are we unable to browse the marketplace (podcasts, deiscover new music with Smart DJ, use visualizations pulled from zune.net service (when in now playing), and half the other zune services?

If we were able to change our regional in: https://live.zune.net/en-US/accounts/AccountManagement.aspx we would be able to use alot more stuff. Sure we still cant buy music but I can get podcasts and use the visual player.

If its becuase the marketplace is not avaible to Canada then whats to stop someone from making a new account under a US location? Why are we just not able to either A) Use and view content but not purchase in Zune with a non US account. or B) Change our Location in Zune's Account settings?

Its like make a new account and BAM I can use it all again, but I loose my pals and plays. I just dont get it can you elaborate on your reasoning for me?

EDIT:
You guys also need to add this under "Vista/Windows 7 Country & Language Settings" Section. Win7 has another setting called "System Locale" it is still under regional & language, but you guys didn't have a screen of it. It also needs to be changed to country of origin, then a reboot is required.

This is a Win7 setting. (the photo was taken from Win7 RTM 7600.16385.x86fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

I have done both of these things, in terms of making sure that the regional language and location were set.  But I continue to still get the error code. What do I do?

Ensure that your .net account is also matching of the regional setting.

Windows Live Passport Homepage:
https://accountservices.passport.net/ppnetworkhome.srf?vv=650&lc=1033

Click on Sign In. (Top Right)

Then Click Account Services (if you are not automatically re-directed.)

Click Registered Information.

Click Home Region dropdown menu.

Try that and see how it works!

Thanks. I am located in France. I changed the country to US, and now I connect the software. I can also access the marketplace. But just Videos & Music. No podcast... No Apps... How weird!

Great post, some of the settings on my computer were wrong. Although, here's a weird one. I'm in Canada and getting this error message but it's telling me that "The location setting for your Windows Live ID doesn't match the setting for your computer (US). Except I'm not in the US?

Doubled checked my live ID settings, says I'm in Canada no problems there. All the regional stuff on my computer is right.

This is really frustrating! Was working fine until the update... I wonder if I have an old install file I can just delete this one and go back to the old one til they actually roll out something that works.

Before I do this, any suggestions?

Correct!  The Zune products were only released for sale in US and Canada, with Zune HD in US only at this time.

If you decided to purchase a device and take it outside the US and Canada then you shouldn't be surprised if it doesn't function as expected, you assume the risks.

I'm sure there are legal reasons why Microsoft is bound and obligated to protect the content from being made available outside the authorized countries.

Although I do agree, I don't understand why the podcasts are not accessible for other countries, I'm not aware of any regional restrictions for podcasts, but perhaps there is.

People have to stop blaming Microsoft for these things, it's not a case of Microsoft trying to stick it to other countries.  There are many legal and business issues that have to be considered and addressed before they can go international.  Don't you think that Microsoft wants to go international, it's in their best interest to do so, but you can just 'flip a switch' and decide to do it even if you've already done it with other products.

I'm frustrated by the restrictions just like everyone else, but I don't blame Microsoft and I will continue to find ways to get the content and functionality I want, as I patiently wait for the Marketplace to come to Canada.

All 4 settings need to be the Same, the thing is. Even if your Computer is set to USA (all 3 settings see previous post.) And when you set up a windows Live ID and you say Canada or what ever you wont be able to use it again on Zune 4.0 software. Unless you want to make a registry hack for me.

Either make a new account or set you PC to the same settings listed with your online .net account. Try that.

Your guide seems to suggest that Microsoft believes English is the only language used within the United States... and if you should happen to use another language you're not allowed to use your Zune. Is this correct?
