Error during player update

After installing Zune Software 4.0 the update of my Zune device (80GB) failed, prompting an error message:

Your player has encountered an error while trying to update to the latest software. Please try to update your player again.
Summary: An unknown error occured.
Error code: C00D11CD (80070057)

I already tried to reset my device and carried out all instructions I found on the web. Finally I performed a complete formatting of my device with an even worse result: I can't install any firmware anymore. When connecting to my PC the error message returns. I already tried to reinstall Zune Software after downloading the entire ZunePackage from Microsoft, following the instructions indicated here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945278/en-us/

No improvement, the error returns.

My Zune remains without any firmware.

Someone to help me???

Seb

re: Error during player update
Funny.  My Zune80 is having the same issue right now, too.  I'm currently (like literally right now) I'm attempting an update for my Zune80 and it's stuck on step 3 of 4.  It has been for the past 10 minutes even though it says it may take "up to 5 minutes" to complete.  To add to the frustration my screen on the device is totally blank, when it usually displays the "Update In Progress" message.

I don't know if we both have a coincidence with our two Zune80s but I hope this is just taking its sweet time.

My Zune 30Gb is doing exactly the same, I formated the device and now I can't install the firmware anymore.
I will try on my other computer with Zune 3.0.

I had the same idea, but it didn't work on my secondary system (Zune3.0 software) as well.

re: Error during player update
Quick update: It now works!

How I got it to work is now the mystery.

It so happened that the update to 3.20 (35) did occur, but because my screen went completely black (as in a black screen but with the backlight on) I figured that it needed a soft reset.  Tried the soft reset and it would boot up to the Zune logo loading screen, then back to the same black screen as mentioned above.

I started to worry at this point.

Not only was my update not going smoothly, but the Zune80 might be a brick now, too.  I pressed on and escalated the tactics.  I went back and tried a hard reset, but the Zune did not respond to it.  I was surprised to see that happening; it really bugged me that the Zune wasn'tZ resetting itself after a hard reset (back button + squircle + pause/play).

Panicking now.  Beads of sweat on my forehead.

I then attemped the soft reset a couple of times and nothing.  Then I tried a soft reset, and while the Zune logo load screen appeared I tried a hard reset.  Something happened this time.  After I did the hard reset the Zune went into the standby screen when you're waiting for the update to take effect.  Then nothing after that.  Back to black screen and frustration moutning, sleepy as hell at 5 A.M. and more and more looking like a brick in my hands.

After that I turned tried plugging it back to the computer and see what would happen.  To my surprise the computer was recognizing the Zune as a device, but the Zune software was not.  I then tried to upload the drivers to the Zune, so I went to:
       Control Panel->Device Manager->Portable Devices->Zune
and under that I went to the drivers tab and Update Drivers.  It showed that the Zune was working perferctly and all drivers were updated and istalled.

So then I just gave up.  I turned off everything and disconnected my Zune and I didn't turn it off.  I let it stand with the backlight on and let it drain the battery so that I could try something different in the morning.

When I came back to it this morning, I saw the battery was almost gone.  Did a soft reset and then I finally saw my regular screen, no black screen.  Then it turned off.  I did another soft reset and it was back up and running again!

I don't know what I did or if just needed to drain the battery.  Now my Zune software recognizes the device and syncs like nothing ever happened.

Maybe you have to let the battery die on your Zune and restart from that point on.  Thats the only thing that I have done differently and it worked.

My update is crap as well. "Downloading components" is still highlighted but it's at 100%. I let it run over night hoping something would happen but no, they better fix this sh*t or I'm buying an ipod.

re: Error during player update

Thank God for Zune users. If your update get stuck on one of the steps like mine did just go into "settings" and update the software from there. Mine worked perfectly going through that way and setting it up.

re: Error during player update

The problem is, that the software doesn't recognize my player after refusing the update.

When I change to settings, the software asks to connect the Zune - although it's properly plugged into the USB port and listed in the device manager...

re: Error during player update
I installed the new Zune software but cannot update my Zune player. It says the same exact thing and I have no idea what to do. I've tried everything to the point of even calling the Zune support and getting step by step instructions on some solutions that didn't work.I'm very worried and upset because I love my Zune but it's not working and I've just about given up. If anyone knows what to do tell me.
