Only getting 30 seconds of playback...?

This is a problem I have with a few songs... I'll be able to listen to the full song on my Zune, but when I go to listen to that same song the computer in the Zune media player, it only plays 30 seconds of the song. What's with that? Is there something wrong with my music files, or the software?

Thanks,
V.Lie

I think this is because the song must only be available for Purchase and not Zune Pass or is NOT AVAILABLE at all and you own it from a CD. Make sure you are signed in to your account if you are trying to play music from the Marketplace also.

Zune is AWESOME!!...since Nov 2006 Black30GB and Pink30GB (my wifes'!!!)

I'm not subscribed to Zune Pass =/

The same songs that I'm having trouble with now played all the way through two days ago, but now I'm only getting the 30 second samples...

Hi vlie27,

You aren't subscribed to Zune Pass now...but were you ever?  Is it possible you tried the 14 day free Zune Pass and downloaded the song?  If you did something like that the song will work 30 days after the last time you renewed the license for it and then revert to only playing 30 second clips.

re: Only getting 30 seconds of playback...?
i've had this happen before but i don't know if it would apply to your situation. I have some files only on an external hard drive, so if that's not on and hooked up to my computer, I wouldn't be able to access it. And if it's in the marketplace, then I would get the 30 second clip (otherwise nothing plays and there's an error message).

Like I said, I have no idea if this is your situation, but I hope it helps.

They have the internet on computers now?!

re: Only getting 30 seconds of playback...?

Yeah I'm getting the same problem, when I try to play songs from my computer it only will play 30 seconds of it. I've never had a zune pass, before and I only started using the Zune software as of last night when 4.0 was avaible. It was working fine earlier today but now it only plays 30 second clips. Also, I'm getting an error on some song that says that the files can't be found or are moved, except for they haven't moved, and the folder is still being watched. I retold it to watch the folder and it either just plays 30 seconds or puts up a yellow '!' circle, and sometimes brings up a warning:

CAN'T PLAY

Summary: It might have bene moved, renamed, deleted, or removed from Zune Marketplace. If it's on an external hard drive, make sure the drive is connected and then try again.

ERROR CODE: C00D1197 (COOD1329)

Um, holy cr*p I think the Zune software destroyed my external HDD, it's not responding and not being recognized. If I lost all my data because of this software I'm going to be extremely pissed. I've never had problems with this hard drive, and I haven't even moved it in months. I didn't touch any of the connections anywhere on my computer. The only thing that has changed was that Zune Software has been running. Someone better have a good answer to what is going on. I can guess there was some disclaimer about using their software in the enduser agreement, but if it really did ruin my HDD I will find a way to sue the pants off of Microsoft, and this is coming from a whole hearted fan of Microsoft and someone who has been waiting day in and day out for today. Wow, I am so disappointed.

Excited to absolutely pissed of in a few hours, great job MS.

DUDE!!!!!!!! iam having the same problem right now. i am on my secong external hard drive from seagate. i have all of my music on there. zune is doing this weird thing saying i dont have enough space on my zune, but then it says i have 4.0G of unused space. then it says i have "overfilled my zune". now that, in curiosity, deleted everything on my zune to install it all again, out of like 5000 songs, 4612 are under the category "Not Added" and if i click expand, ALL these songs have little black exclamation points on them in little yellow circles next to the song name. i now only have 140 out of almost 5000 songs on my zune..........WTF???????????????????????????? anybody no anything about this b******t and wtf microsoft is going to do about it? thats the thing i hate about microsoft, it takes too damn long for them to find and fix problems.

I'm not familiar with the zune pass, but any time I only get 30 seconds of playtime from a track means that the file has been moved or deleted. Go to you folder and make sure you haven't accidently moved or deleted the file. And also, if you are using a external hard drive for your library, make sure it is connected to your computer anytime you use the zune software.

1. i never have used a zune pass.....ever in my life
2. i havent touched my files location ever, but i checked and they were there. i clicked them and it went to play them on the sune thing and said they couldnt be found....???????
3. my hard drive is always plugged in and always on and blah blah blah..... i REALLY think that microsoft has some major issues to address with zune right now.... my music is getting deleted as i speak (apparently) via the zune software.

AHHA!!! proof it has everything to do with the zune software, i can play all the songs, even the ones with the exclamation points on them, through windows media player, and none of them are limited to 30 seconds..... MICROSOFT!!!!!!!HEY LISTEN UP!!!!!!! YOU HAVE AN ISSUE TO FIX!!! ITS LIMITING THE ENTIRE POINT OF HAVING A MP3 PLAYER!!!!!!!

re: Only getting 30 seconds of playback...?
If it wasn't obvious from the previous posts, if you hear 30 second samples when trying to play content in your collection... the software can't find your files, so it tries to play a sample streamed from Marketplace.

Right button click, properties on the track in the software... and it'll show you where it thinks the file is.  Then verify it's still in the exact place it says it is, and it's named the same.

Worst case, you may need to reset the collection database like a new install and let it re-index all your content.
