Zune is not worth it (especially in Canada)

A little history - I bought a zune 8gb when they first released them in Canada when they first came out thinking they would be a strong competitor to the i pod - BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!

My guess the Zune HD is a nice peice of hardware but:

NO MARKETPLACE IN CANADA, promised a YEAR AGO and STILL NOT AVAILABLE!!!!!

LACK OF PRODUCT (Zune might be nice but it can't be that supieror to the i Pod Touch and with the i pod I can go to the stores and buy it right away) and well ACCESSORIES ARE PRETTY WELL NON- EXISTANT, I that doubt that will change.

Zune has done a POOR JOB IN CANADA and no improvement is in sight!!!!!!

My 8 gb is almost filled up and I waited long enough and I'm off to buy an i pod, I guess Apple likes taking my money.

Thanks for CRAPPING ON CANADA ZUNE!!!!!

re: Zune is not worth it (especially in Canada)

I'm investigating if there is a potential legal issue against Microsoft failing to provide an essential service for the Zune devices in Canada.  The device is essentially cripped in Canada without accees to the Marketplace.  It is even more crippled with the 4.0 software as you can no longer even access the Marketplace by setting your computer region to US, which means that you can no longer manage podcasts either.

Personally I've invested a fair amount of money in Zune products, (bought 3 of them) plus accessories and have patiently been waiting for the Marketplace to be available.  At the very least I would expect some official response from Microsoft on the status of Marketplace in Canada.  I believe that Microsoft at least has a moral if not a legal obligation to provide this information to their Canadian customers.

re: Zune is not worth it (especially in Canada)
where's the Canada love?  where is the zune pass?  I have now purchased three units and I refuse to spend a dime more until I see a zune pass program here in Canada.  I wonder if MS realizes that right now the bulk of their customers are people who despise apple because of how lame it is that there is only one format and no insight.  I personally felt that the zune pass was going to revolutionize the multimedia industry but there still is a serious FAIL! when it comes to the Canadian Market.  I bought Windows 7, I bought a PC, I bought a Zune, I bought an XBOX360, I think I should be entitled to a little Zune Pass action and a REAL REASON to buy an Zune HD.

Microsoft
Please do not ignore the Canadian Market

as far as podcasts go ...click unsubscribe on a selected podacast and then re-subscribe see if that updates the podcast...or go to the itunes store and D/L the podcast..it will appear on your ZOOM

That's simply awesome.  Pretty much the only single reason I use my Zune daily has disappeared?!?!!

I bought this thing assuming we had Zune pass only to find out we don't.  At least I could get podcasts.
Now if I can't get podcasts anymore I WANT A REFUND!!

The damn thing has a Podcast menu item but I can't download podcast from Zune.net.  Isn't that false advertising?

I know it seems like this thread is to complain about the lack of the feature, but if anyone is interested there are more ways than the marketplace to add a podcast. I figure I might be able to help.

If you go into the podcast tab of the collection tab you might notice a button that says "add podcast"?

If you click that and then copy and past the url of your favorite podcast's rss feeds into it then it will be there and auto updated.

The only thing you lose(in regards to podcasts) is the directory of podcasts and the giant download list.

Um, why the hell are you calling me out right now? What am I supposed to do exactly? Magically wave my hands and have marketplace appear? I wish I could. I don't know you, go b**** to someone else who isn't sick of your rambling and swearing and negativity.

Anyways, to everyone else who isn't being a d-bag right now, I agree we should get Marketplace. I've showed off my Zune to a bunch of people who said "wow that's pretty cool" and some have considered buying one. But we'd get more people wanting to buy them if we could show off what it REALLY can do. Too bad we can't. I've read multiple articles recently saying how tough it is to get digital entertainment out of the US, especially with Zune. I think it's mostly the Zune Pass that's throwing record labels off. And of course it's the corrupted evil record labels, why do you think we're getting the video marketplace before the music marketplace? There's no Zune Pass for video so I guess it was easier for Microsoft to get them distributed to other countries. It doesn't stop at Zune. Where's our Netflix? Where's our Hulu? By the time we get all this stuff it will be obsolete.

Also, what is the problem with podcasts exactly? Mine work fine Tongue Tied [:S]

Re: re: Zune is not worth it (especially in Canada)
Is that a Charlie Brown refference? lol

The "great pumpkin", being the Zune Pass, is not coming. But we are getting video marketplace. It's not exactly what we're all asking for, but it's not exactly nothing either. I'm lookin forward to using it since I occassionally rent movies off my Xbox anyways and I'm considering buying TV shows that I would consider getting on DVD. Mostly shows that only I watch in the family but at least I can view them on my Laptop, my Zune, and on my HDTV if I wanted through my Xbox whereas a DVD is technically only playable through DVD players, unless you break the digital lock on the disc to rip it to your computer lol. I bet if you showed off movies on your Zune to people they would still be more encouraged to buy it than at the state it is right now.

re: Re: re: Zune is not worth it (especially in Canada)

I have Marketplace working in version 4 that same way it was in version 3.

You may not like it, but here's what you have to do:

- Change your computer region to US, same as you had to do in Version 3

- Create a new Windows Live account with a US address, any address will do

- Create a new US Zune account using the email address from your new US Windows Live account (maybe this part was not necessary, I'm not sure)

It takes a little work, but the hardest part really was coming up with a new Zune Tag

Beware this means that all your Social info such as playcounts etc will be lost, or rather still associated to your old Zune account.

It may not be necessary to perform all this steps, but this is what worked for me.

Also remember this does not allow you to purchase from the Marketplace but at least it works the way it did before and for me it has restored my desire to pickup a Zune HD in the US and suffer with the crippled Marketplace until/if it is eventually release in Canada.

Let me know if you can't get it working and I will try to help.
