Zune 30 GB effectively a paper weight
My Zune suddenly could no longer play music (after 5 minutes error message saying file not found would pop up). The battery died before I had a chance to get to a computer again (yeah camping!), and after powering back up, it prompted me to connect to PC. Upon doing so, the software prompted me to install firmware, which I tried. Error message saying "Cant sync because there isnt enough room on your Zune" pops up with error code C00D124F. Player is non functional, this is a fresh install of zune software on a fresh install of WIndows 7 on a new Hard Drive. My warranty is expired, Im not going to pay $130 to send it in for repairs when I could buy a new one at that outrageous cost, and I cant navigate to a real person on their phone service. Right now Im mostly frustrated and ticked off at the utter lack of support, so I turn to you, the community. Please help. Thanks

Edit: I have tried the back + up key combo to reset the player. It went through the motions, ended with the same results

have you tried setting the amount of reserved space down to about 1%?

or have you tried formatting the zune from the software's end, installing new firmware, then putting your music back on?

if neither of those two things work, then it sounds like it could be a hard drive issue

apparently there is a couple of different reasons this error happens

Mine's larger.

back and up is just a reboot.  you need to "Initalize Disk"   Use the OP from here:  http://forums.zune.net/1/44/231510/ShowPost.aspx#231510

So I just got back from work to try this.  The device did not respond to the Initialize Disk nor did it respond to the clear content command (as far as I can tell).  As per instructions, I ran the reboot (which it does respond to) then held down that crazy key combination when the screen went black.  I tried this 4-5 times, and each time it appeared to simply run the reboot (as if I hadnt been holding the keys).

there is one more thing to try...connect it, and in the software settings, 'install games.'  This forces a partial reload of the fimware...maybe enough so that you can successfully do the init disk process.  If this fails...well, I dunno what else to try besides a repair.

For those playing along at home, I gave up and ordered a new mp3 player.  Microsoft's lack of useful support (tried the phone too) has caused me to forego another zune despite my overall satisfaction with the product.  Relying on the community to support itself is a poor plan (though I do thank all who helped).
