re: Zune won't recognize dvd drive

I just bought a new SATA DVD drive from LG, and the Zune software will not recognize it. All other software recognizes it flawlessly, inlcuding Windows Media Player, foobar2000 and VLC. Zune is the only problem. I have Vista x64, fully updated. I already tried uninstalling Zune software (in between each step). I bought a different SATA DVD drive before ( a Samsung) and that didn't work from the start either, so I thought maybe the drive was DOA. The last drive that worked with the Zune software was a PATA drive, so maybe there's something quirky about SATA that Zune can't handle? Anyone have any ideas?

When you say it doesn't recognize it, do you mean that it simply won't read it? Do you get an error trying to use it from within Zune?

the CD on the bottom left won't activate and turn black. No errors or anything, just no reaction.

What happens when you drag a track over the CD icon and release it?

When I drag a song to the disc icon, the icon goes black. When I click on that, this is what shows;

Is it possible you have other software running that's preventing Zune from obtaining exclusive access to that drive in order to write to it? If you're running other CD or DVD-burning software that keeps something in the system tray, for example, that might occur.

I'll also ask some others who might be more knowledgable than myself about this specific issue.

I'm not as interested in burning discs as much as I'm interested in ripping it, but no- I don't see any programs that could possibly be trying to access the disc. I only really use Zune. I never run itunes or wmp or anything.

although, a weird thing happened today, after leaving a music CD in the drive for a few days with Zune running, it eventually saw the disc. However, I rejected the disc, and put it straight back in and it couldn't see the CD again. I'm still trying to replicate that, but it hasn't happened again yet.
