ZUNE HD 16 and 32 GB NOW AVAILABLE? ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Excuse me, but are you really serious that we are that stupid to buy into this marketing scheme?

As great and awesome the Zune HD is, why in God's world would I trade in my 80 GB for a Zune HD 16 GB  or 32 GB!

Zune, please don't make me have to go out and buy an Apple!  Don't insult my intelligence and other loyal Zune customers!

I don't see your point at all...  If your 80 is your preference then stay with it...  Introducing the HDs doesn't insult anyone's intelligence as far as I can see...

I guess you'll have to read my statement over again until you understand.

No one's forcing you to get it buddy.

Plus, it comes out September 15.

re: ZUNE HD 16 and 32 GB NOW AVAILABLE? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
I'm with XerxeusX on this one.  I personally feel pretty shafted that I won't be able to "upgrade" to the slick, shiny new hardware as my 120 is itself almost at capacity.  However, I do think that this is at least a step in the right direction to get people onboard with Zune -- when up against the iPod Touch, with a slicker interface, updated design, and significant lower price ($70/$100 less than their 16/32GB iPod equivilants), the new Zune might well serve to convert buyers who have been on the fence.  With this release, consumers will finally be able to ask themselves, "Why NOT get a Zune?"

And as others have pointed out elsewhere, the flash-based storage that makes the devices so slim (as opposed to bulky, traditional disk storage on the 30/80/120GB models) is much more costly from a manufacturing standpoint.  Until the price on flash storage comes down, the 16/32GB they're introducing with this make the most sense from a fiscal and business perspective: the new devices should be appealing to potential consumers for their hardware, features and pricepoint.

Again, personally I'm not going to pay $300 for 26% of the storage space I already enjoy.  I'd be willing to meet Microsoft halfway if they launched a 64GB model, but until that happens the least I can do is hope for a decent firmware/OS upgrade when the "lesser" models launch in September.

re: ZUNE HD 16 and 32 GB NOW AVAILABLE? ARE YOU SERIOUS?

I was really looking forward to the Zune HD. I was a little miffed that until now, there was no mention of the storage capacity in the information that Microsoft has provided the last months. I currently have a Zune 80 and between my music library, pictures, video podcasts and some movies, I frequently have 60+ GB in use and occasionally I get very near to the 80GB limit. There is no way that 32GB is even close to enough. If Microsoft could provide a Zune HD with 80 or better 120GB, they would have certainly given the iTouch a competitor to fear. I guess I would have to buy two of these to support all my media and that's not likely.

If the Flash capacity is a maximum of 32GB, then Microsoft needs to provide a model with a hard drive like the Zune 120. Obviously this would be a larger form factor but as long as it wasn't any larger than the Zune 120, most people wouldn't care. And battery life has not been a problem for me. I would think that the hard drive version could actually be cheaper.

I also wonder whether existing Zune cables will work with this device. Do I have to buy a new car charger, AC adapter, sync cables, etc or can I just use the ones I have?

I hope that MS will continue to provide software updates for existing Zune 30, 80 and 120GB units. We haven't seen any updates for a long time! I really like my Zune and I hope it gets first class support from Microsoft. I really would like to buy a Zune HD for the features that it provides but I can't if it is limited to 32GB. If it weren't for that limitation, I would be pre-ordering one today.

Microsoft won't be able to release a 120 GB version of the Zune HD unless is somehow figures out how to defy the laws of physics, because capacitive touch screen+ HDD = impossible

and a 128 GB flash drive would be extremely expensive and weird, probably won't come out until much later

sorry about that, I'm pretty miffed too

I've seen rumors of a 64GB Zune HD. That would most likely get me to open my wallet as long as I don't have to open it too far and I don't have to buy new sync cables, AC adapters, car battery chargers, etc. I guess I will have to spring for a new dock if I want HD video, though.

... and this was exactly my point and there's no arguement here with everything you said.  I totally concur.

As for myself, yes!  I was willing to meet Microsoft halfway with at least a 64 GB Zune HD.  But since this isn't going to happen anytime soon, we'll just have to wait and see.

Thank you for your forward-thinking approach into understanding the content of my original message.

Agreed!  Currently, I have an 80 GB 2nd generation Zune.  The current disk space used so far is 24.20 GB at this moment.  This is only with manual download settings.  I simply don't download anything simply for the sake of downloading.

As stated before, I would have (at least) been satified with a 64 GB Zune HD.
