Yeah I noticed  this a few days ago and it's really annoying. So far I've converted 146 movies, TV shows and random videos to Zune format w/ 3rd party software (approx 40GB) .

What 3rd party software are you using?  Does it convert the files to WMV or MP4?  Can you use DVD (VOB) files on your hard drive as input?

I have been looking for a solution to create "Zune" video files.  I have tried several, but find my trust Nero Recode the best option so far.  But Nero outputs MP4 video files.  These are recognize by the software, but have to "Translates" by the Zune software during the sync, and this takes a llllooooonnnnnngggggg time.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
This problem is beyond unfortunate!! I just bought a Zune 80 and the hard drive on my computer is only 60 gigs, so it is not even possible for me to use the entire 80 gigs on the Zune!!! I can't believe this.  I've gone from loving my new Zune to hating it in less than 24 hours! I don't recall Microsoft ever stating anywhere that I would need a computer with 80 gigs of storage space in order to use my new Zune.  What a rip off!!

Zune is releasing an update sometime this month. Mainly to fix the battery problem but it does say it will address and fix other issues so hopefully that will include the syncing issues we've been having (Fingers crossed).

RDanka, external USB drives are big and relatively cheap.  Buy one, and move your music collection over to it.  You'll have plenty of space to grow.

You’re right, it seems the everyone has there own "workaround" since the inability to simply turn off auto sync isn't there.  Although 80 gig USBs do cost a pretty penny.  None of these workaround should be necessary. I've already got 500 cds as a backup method for my music.

What are people doing who want to use multiple computers? I have a laptop that I use when traveling and another desktop at work. I'm petrified to connect my Zune to either of these.  I keep hearing people mentioning the “tell the software to forget the Zune and then sign in as a guest” option, but I cannot for the life of me find a guest option when I reconnect my Zune after disassociating it from the software.

Please, Microsoft, fix this problem.  All I want is the option to stop the thing form auto syncing.

Bump, until we get some official response on the matter of the Zune software being completely broken like this.

I can't even believe this. Manually syncing things to the Zune should be an obvious and important feature. Let's say I have 200GB of music on my computer, what will happen on christmas day when I try to sync just some of that collection that is in the Zune software, and not all of it.

you will have to put the music that you want to go to your zune into a folder(s) seperate from the rest of your music collection and tell your zune to monitor that folder(s).

How about my sister who has a 50GB laptop? She won't even be able to use an 80GB Zune.

she will be able to use the zune with no problems.  i don't know why you think you have to have 80GB of disk space on your computer before you can use the zune.

the zune 2 software certainly has some problems, but nearly as bad as you think they are.

This still does not fix the sync groups problem. Where the software doesnt recognize songs already on the device and sync even if u choose manual sync. You will end up wih 10 copies of the same song.

I think he means if she accumualtes too much music on her laptop and wants to remove she cant because as soon as she connects her zune itll be removed from there also.

That is my problem also (one of them at least), especially when it comes to video.   My laptop does not have enough space for me to sync up all the videos I want.  I am going to try to sign on as a guest on my desktop and see if I "fill" it that way.

It's a shame that I should be scared to attach my Zune to another computer for fear that everything is going to be wiped out.  Shame on you Microsoft!!!

I HAVE EVERYTHING SET TO "LET ME CHOOSE"
I DRAG AND DROP THE CONTENT THAT I WANT, BUT IT STILL CONTINUES TO SYNC EVERYTHING I HAVE IN MY COLLECTION.

WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THAT ? IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND IAM DEFINATELY NOT LIKING THIS NEW SOFTWARE. ZUNE WAS TOO BUSY WITH UPDATING AND UPGRADING, THERE ARE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS NEW VERSION.
