Zune car pack and fm tuner
I have been looking to purchase a Zune Car Pack to play my Zune in the car, but I am not sure how they work.  I always hear about hte FM transmitter and tuning to get the right frequency, but this sounds more like playing the radio and I am not interested in doing that.  I just want to listen to my collection.  Is it really that complicated?

My sister used to have a cassette tape you could slide in the car cassette player that hooks to the zune headphone slot and it worked just fine.  Why can't I find anything like that aside from the cassette tape (which apparantly gets bad reviews)?

Also, what would be a good one to purchase?

I've never had much luck with FM transmitters. In my Mazda, I use the cassette adapter, and it works just fine. I think it's made by Philips, and I paid around $10 for it at Wal-Mart about a year ago. If you don't have a cassette player in your car, and you don't want to mess with a transmitter, you could look into getting a new car stereo with the AUX input jack on the front. They've become  pretty inexpensive in the last couple of years.

I bought one that plugs into your cigarette lighter for about 15 bucks. Totally worth it - works fine. The only bad thing is I have to keep my Zune at volume level 13 for some reason, but that's a small price to pay for saving money. It has a place where you can plug in your usb port so you can charge also if you choose to.

FM transmitters work by transmitting a low power FM signal to your car radio.  You have to tune both to the same unused FM frequency...but once you do that, you're done with setup...just turn on your zune, and play music, podcasts, or playlists, etc.
FM transmitters need to be able to transmit to your car radio antenna effectively to work.  Of course some may just be junk, but mostly they work well or poorly based on their location and the car antenna location relative to each other.  You cannot transmit radio thru metal...
I personally use and prefer the cassette tape adapters- no power is required- but  the FM transmitters are fine, too.
