re: Marketplace music skips a lot...

OK... about 30%+ of my Zune pass Marketplace music is skipping/ has defects in the playback on my Zune.  On my computer, it's fine.  I have been told to search the forums.  I have and no luck.  Does anyone else have this issue?  What can be done?  I'm trying NOT to call 800-GET-Zune or whatever, but I've been having this issue for a month without help.

Skips throughout the entire song?  Same place every time?

There are 2 issues with the tracks only in Zune playback, and some tracks have both issues:

1) music skips in the same place on the track, meaning if I restart the track, the skips are in the exact location every time but when played on my Vista with Zune software, no skips

2)some tracks will suddenly end and go to the next track, and do this at the exact same place everytime.  If I FF through that specific part of the track in the song or video then the track will play all the way through (about 2 to 4 secs FF).  And again, no issue on the computer playback.

 

It is not on all the tracks downloaded with my pass, but it is on none of the tracks off CD's I've ripped to the Zune.

I've experienced both of those issues with like 4 songs out of the thousands I have downloaded with my Zune Pass.  Deleting and re-dling them solved the issue.

fewer skips, but still skips.  Now the skips are in different songs. Ah heck.  I won't be buying music at the marketplace anymore.  I don't get it.  The skips are only on my Zune, never on the computer.  Maybe it's the HD?

Not that it should matter but do you have wireless turned on and/or using one of the EQ presets?

I usually keep the wireless turned off and I use Acustic EQ.  I am trying something else, now.  I have erased all again and this time will try wireless sync.  For some reason I think it is in the syncing with the zune that the skips are introduced because I NEVER have skips or early ends with the Zune software on my Vista.  I really hope this works.  I spent all night last night with the wife and kids.  I downloaded 20+ albums of christmas music and 30% had skips or early ends.  My wife finally made me shut it off and turn on the car radio.  That was a real bummer b/c I got her a Zune for Christmas.   What has wireless and EQ got to do with it?

Using the EQ and/or wireless places an additional processing load on your Zune.  As a test, I would turn the EQ off and see what happens.

You have the latest firmware right? There was a big issue with Marketplace songs skipping back when Zune first came out over a year ago but was fixed with one of the firmware updates.

I figured the issue out.  I have had only the new software as I got my Browny on 11/20/07.  If I wirelessly sync'd I never had issues.  I figured it was a USB issue.  So I switched out my usb mouse and the zune and viola it stopped all the skipping and video issues.  I have 4 usb ports in the back of my computer.  I wonder if 2 of the are simalar to the phantom USB ports on the front of a computer that creates issues with the Zunes.  Anyhow, it's like haveing a new Zune again.  I went ahead and got my wife a Browny for Xmas.  Thanks for responding.... peace.

Update.  Still happening.  Even w/ change to diff. USB.  Annoying.  Really.  I can't finish a Video podcast without it restarting.  oh well... peace.
