How to transfer sync groups from one zune to another?
I've just purchased a new zune and plan to give my old one to my husband.  I want all the work I've put into culling the collection down to what I want to transfer to my new zune.  How do I set up my new zune with the settings from my old zune?  Is there a way to transfer the sync setup from my old zune to my new one easily...without having to manually delete all the files I don't want?

re: How to transfer sync groups from one zune to another?

Well, I gave up...the only thing (I could find) was being able to transfer the ratings on songs.  So, I don't think you can load a new zune with the exact same content loaded to your old one.  If there is a way that I've missed, I hope someone will share that info here so others will know how!

I can see that I can look at the song list within the music area and go back and forth between the settings for the old zune and new one and update from the old settings, but it will take quite a while that way.

It would be nice to have a way to transfer your settings automatically for those of us upgrading our Zune.

re: How to transfer sync groups from one zune to another?

I'm looking to do a similar thing with transferring everything from an old Zune to a new one.  Were you able to keep your account name, etc, and migrate that to the new player?  I want to wipe the old one clean and assign a new user name to that one when I'm done.

Thanks!

re: How to transfer sync groups from one zune to another?

As I indicated, I couldn't just move the collection as I had it on my old zune to my new one.  I had to name my zune something different  (you could rename your old zune and then name your new zune with the old name) two zunes on the same system can't have the same name.  Within the setting you can ask that your music ratings cross over to all zunes...I choose that until I got everything set up on my new zune so for the few songs I had dislike ratings set that showed up on my song list. ( I also have it set in settings not to move music with dislike ratings onto my zune)  Then I changed that setting and told my husband he could change the ratings all he wanted when his zune is attached. (We don't have the same music tastes)  Since what I really wanted was all my music with the exception of some of my husband's music.  I just went to the song list vew with my zune attached within Collection: Music and right clicked on everything I didn't want and choose do not sync with "nameofzune".   My situation may not work for you depending on if you increase the size of your zune or downsized.

I do think the zune team needs to put a transfer settings button or something in for those of us loyal zune users that buy new zunes...it would have saved me time!

re: How to transfer sync groups from one zune to another?
The Zune development team ABSOLUTELY MUST MAKE THIS A FEATURE OF THE ZUNE SOFTWARE.

After getting the "black screen of death" and reformatting my Zune 80 three or four times now, each time having to go back through a collection of tens of thousands of songs to set up over 500 sync groups, I am TIRED of having to do this by hand.

When you reformat your Zune, the software recognizes it as a new device and all the old sync relationships are lost. This SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. It doesn't happen with an iPod, and it shouldn't happen here. The Zune software should recognize the device by its MAC address, not by its reassigned-upon-format UUID. I'm sick of having to spend two to three hours sifting through my collection and setting the sync groups up over and over again!

re: How to transfer sync groups from one zune to another?
I just lost all my sync groups after connecting to another computer's zune software (as a guest), then plugging it back into the main computer. It thought it was a new device and asked me to give it a name. This is the third time I've set up sync groups in two weeks. Really getting to be a pain.

Another note, I wish I could choose to go ahead and force the Zune's existing songs to fall under the new sync groups I'm setting up. In this instance I have a Zune filled with only stuff from my sync groups, but now that those are lost and I'm going to have to set it up again, everything currently on the Zune will stay there even if later on I remove artists from the sync groups.
