Software can't access important data on Zune
One day my Zune decided to erase all content when I tried to reset when it froze up.  Since that time, I am unable to sync to the software.  When I connect my Zune via sync cable, the software will still start and attempt to sync, but I get a message stating 'The Zune software can't access important data on your Zune.  Try disconnectiong and reconnectiong it.  If the problem persists, contact customer support." (Screenshot available if it helps)  I also receive this message when I try to sync wirelessley.  The Zune icon in the bottom left corner of the software will light like I am connected before receving the above message.

I did the manual clear and reinstall of the firmware on the Zune device twice (each time on a different PC), and was able to re-link the device to each computer w/ no problems, but when I tried to sync content, I got the same message as above.

I am in the middle of draining my battery completly and reconnecing to see if that helps at all.

On a possibly related (possibly not) note, the LCD screen has cracked was cracked about a week before.

Any help to save my Zune would be much appreciated!

1. Here's a knowledge base about the error. See if anything there helps.
2. If your device is not a Zune 30, you can send it in for screen repair for $80 flat (covers shipping, labor, screen, etc)

re: Software can't access important data on Zune
Alas, I had tried almost everything in the knowledge base already to no avail.  I then tried what was left and still nothing.  I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Zune software on my computer, but that didn't do anything either.  I'm afraid I am bricked....

I shall try calling into Microsoft support, but I can't really see anything else that they could do.

Anyone know if Geek Squad fixes Zunes or would it cost just as much to buy a new/used device?

Sounds like your device may be on the way out. :( That error happens when the software can't communicate properly with your Zune. Might be time for new device. I hate to throw things out, but you might be better off just getting a new device on eBay or something, as repairs can sometimes cost just as much as a replacement.
