music only playing for 30 seconds

What is going on?  The music I bought from Zune and the music I loaded from CD's is only playing for 30 seconds

that means the software cannot find your collection, so it goes out to the marketplace and plays the preview. Check your monitored folders...are they still correct? Do you have your collection on an external drive? Is the drive letter persistent?

I'm having the same problem and it is not related to finding my collection. The music files have been playing just fine for months and all of a sudden some will only play the preview. I posted this in another related thread and did not get any help.

re: music only playing for 30 seconds
I started having this problem and after reading this thread realized that my external drive was turned off - but this is really an awful way to manage it this situation.

Why doesn't the interface tell me that it's having a problem finding the song? I actually deleted an entire album a few weeks ago because I thought something had been wrong with the rip. Now I realize what's going on.

Why does the software give a warning only SOMETIMES when it can't find something? If I had known from the interface that it couldn't find the song, I would have gone into investigating an issue with the drive. But since it didn't indicate an issue, or that it was going to the web for the songs, I got to waste my time trying to hunt through the web to find the problem.
