re: Help Why is some Market Place Content not Available?

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me out Please. I am a big music fan and I want to download alot of music for my zune on Zune Market Place, but for some wierd reason when I find a album I really like it says Not Available. I was wondering why does the Market Place do that and how would I be able to download the Music.

Short answer: It's all about how the contracts are setup between Microsoft and the record label.

Tromboneforhire is right on the money. To expand a bit, here are the three most common reasons an album is unavailable:

1. Albums are not cleared for digital distribution: The label has not ok'd an album for digital sales. These albums are not availble in Marketplace, iTunes, REAL, or anywhere.

2. Entire artists (such as the Beatles, AC/DC, etc.) choosing not to distribute digitally.

3. Many smaller artists and 1-band labels may not have a deal with Zune (or any digital retailer for that matter).

Most of the time Protection63 (although not all the time), if an album you like is not available in Marketplace it is not digitally available at all. This is a decision coming from the labels and the artists, as we'd like to offer as much music as we possibly can!

they havent downloaded it yet.... itll be available like within like mmm............. about 1 week or so..... just guestimating

 

Here's a weird situation showing up now:  Quite a few 'White Stripes' albums are now saying 'Not Available' in Marketplace- some of these I actually purchased over the past year from Marketplace! - For some strange reason, these same White Stripes albums I bought in Marketplace are also no longer showing up in my Purchase History, and if I play them now, they don't appear at all on my Zune Card. 

Is there just some weird issue now with White Stripes albums produced before 2007?  The only albums now showing as 'Available' are 'Icky Thump' and the singles-discs from it.  

Hey rgraham - there actually is a weird issue unique to the White Stripes right now. Their label (Warner) pulled a bunch of their albums. They are in the process of being reissued, and should be back in Marketplace sometime in July.

 

Why even show the content that is not available?
If I can not listen to the music or download it then why are the people that maintain the Zune Software wasting everyone's time....?

This has been mentioned and answered multiple times.  Remember, Zune is a music discovery and 'social' service, too.  No matter if Zune can offer the content, the music is still part of the artist's catalog.  You can still have the content, ripped from your personal CDs... and it can still be your favorite.

Do note, by default, if you select an artist in Marketplace... it only lists albums with available tracks.  You need to click on "all" to see all of them listed; "available" is the default.

Showing unavailable content really pissed me off when I first signed up. Learning the reason why did give me understanding and calm me down to a reasonable level, but it still irks me a bit. When I got my Zune, I was ready to jump headlong into this online purchasing of music and getting lots of legal downloads, but I had no bloody idea how much the record companies hate Microsoft and the Zune Marketplace.

I actually have like 10 songs that say when i sync them that the content is no longer availible. I payed for the songs so i think that i should get credits to get those certain songs again!!

I am new to Zune and just stumbled upon this problem. I was trying to get the tune "Sober" by the band "Tool". It showed in the Zune Marketplace as a grayed out line. I searched for a half hour on the forums before I found this thread....how frustrating! Anyway I see that Tool and/or their music company do not seem to have put their music up on the internet...at least in mp3. Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can get "not available" music on my zune? I am more than willing to pay! Thanks, TuneCognescente
