What if Microsoft shuts down Zune Pass for good, what will happen then?
So i have been using the Zune and the Zune Pass for a few month now and i love it, everything is great about it.
I just thought of something thought, what if there will be no more Zune Pass?

Microsoft has been loosing millions of dollars on Zune and that's obviously bad news for the Zune Pass, let alone Zune Players.
So my question is, what will happen to all of the music we have downloaded, obviously we don't own it so it will no longer work, right?

The problem with that is all the time i and millions of other Zune Pass users who have invested hours and hours downloading music on the Zune Pass.

I am pretty sure that's what happened to Yahoo Music while back and i am also pretty sure that it happened because of their competition which was Rhapsody.

I am thinking about going back to iTunes/iPod, and iReallyDon'tWantTo since once again, i really enjoy the Zune Pass and my new 16GB Zune Player.
Please reply and tell me why i shouldn't make the move back to the iEvil side and stay with the Zune Pass and is it safe?
Thanks in advance.

If you don't want to rent music at the mercy of both the provider (who decides if it can be rented) and the service (which might 'go out of business', just like any business)... don't use a subscription service.

"I am thinking about going back to iTunes/iPod" means not using a subscription service, so what is your discussion point here?  It's really your decision if you prefer the iPod, iTunes and using purchased music content exclusively.

Well, for one the Zune Pass has actually increased the amount of subscribers by around 1 or 2 million users this past year. Don't quote me on the numbers, but it's around that.  I wish I could pull the article and link it, but I don't have the time right now to dig it up.

Why switch back? Because of a fear of Zune Pass Meltdown? Yeah the current ecomomy has everyone scared of everything, and it's ok to be that way.  But let's say the ZP does go down.  Wouldn't you still have to buy an ipoop, excuse me, ipod and transfer everything over to itunes.  Zune Marketplace still has the songs you'd be looking for and you'll be able to save $$ by already having a portable music player.

Not that I think it'll ever happen, but I'm a bit biased (grin)...but if the Zune Pass ever did go away, you'd still have the tracks on your machine and the next time you tried to play them, you would get an option to purchase the song. You'd then be getting the same experience that you'd be getting from that other service you mentioned. ;)

re: What if Microsoft shuts down Zune Pass for good, what will happen then?

Maybe Rhapsody would merge with zune in some way or buy it if  worse comes to worse. Or some other party would purchase the business from Msoft?

I love subscription music. I had stopped listening to new music when CDS got too expensive to buy much of. I just kept listening to the old stuff I already purchased. I refuse to resort to piracy,

Now there is a legal way to listen to tons of music legally and the songs and albums we really want to keep we can purchase. Although I prefer to purchase CDS so I have a hard cop.  I can see fewer cds on the shelves in the future  as more people carry around zunes and such. That is better for the enviroment if it happens but it will cost jobs (mostly overseas as cd manufacturing is done mostly outsourced nowadays it seems).

With the economy being so bad, and rampant piracy of songs. The zune is an honest answer to keeping the recording industry vital and keep people listening to and buying music, while helping artists get their royalties.

I would like Zune to find a way to get new artists who are producing their own records on the market place so we can hear them. Some talented artists haven't been fortunate enough to land big record deals and be promoted. But I suppose the record and publish companies don't want this because they have to protect their more established artists they have already invested moolah into promoting. Its all about money and money shapes the way the Market Place selections come into being too much, and probably inhibits to some extent new music from evolving faster.... :(
