Suggestion: RSS feeds for my plays and other data

Hi,

I'd like to see RSS feeds provided that pass out all my information. Something like the following might work:

That way I'd be able to choose which information I want on my Zune profile or I'd be able to show it on other sites such as http://friendfeed.com/jamiet

Obviously I would have the option of whether to make this data available or not.

You could also make site-scoped info available as well:

Or artist-scoped info:

Thanks

Jamie

love the idea of the multiple feeds for different data streams. if they never get around to adding scrobbling to the desktop client you could use that to roll your own as well as blog tracks, tumblr etc

I whole heartedly agree.

EDIT: In fact, they should use the GData API's ATOM publishing and extensions method... (Oh wait... Microsoft. Right.)

Leif902,

Don't worry, Microsoft have already adopted ATOM and APP as their default data publishing protocols (see here: http://jamiethomson.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!550F681DAD532637!3649.entry)

I think there is value in adopting ATOM and APP but for simple one-way data (i.e. this data is only getting published, not updated) I think RSS is sufficient personally.

Thanks for the link, that's excellent news and I don't know how I missed it! As for RSS I agree... I use it for most of my one way stuff (Well, recently I've started using Feedburner to allow people the choice of using ATOM). But I'm also a big fan of ATOM for content which needs updating and easy expansion.

Hi there,

What's scrobbling?

That's the last.fm word for logging what you've listened to & doing something with it.

I'd like to see exactly what you mentioned, Jaime. I'd use RSS feeds to get more of my friends using Zune... without Zune accounts, why would they even bother to log in to see my profile page? Whereas RSS feeds would allow my play data to appear in places like FriendFeed, and so Facebook, where my friends currently are in abundance. They'd follow links in the RSS feed back to my playlist, and thus grows the list of people using the Zune software, if not a Zune player.

I was disappointed to see RSS didn't come in the 2.5 refresh... Zune's missing a pretty big wave here with FriendFeed's popularity. Here's to small(er) incremental releases.

re: Suggestion: RSS feeds for my plays and other data
RSS is definitely a must-do for Zune information. Of course, complete integration with Last.FM would appease those of us who have been scrobbling for ages, but in the meantime, being able to republish my information via RSS would absolutely appease me. Regarding how people have to log in to see your profile page... Zune team could fix this by letting users click an option to make profiles completely public or viewable only to people with Zune accounts. It works for Myspace, Facebook, etc. right?

100% agree. I'd love to be able to integrate this data into my website like I would be able to do if I could use last.fm with my zune.

Any word on if we going to get this?  It would be really invaluable to be able to make mashups using our Zune data.

It sounds as if we actually can do this... there are Atom feeds. They could use improvement and more feedback, but they are available!
