MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES (the ability to create) ZUNE GAMES!!!

Engadget Story

Gizmodo Story

it looks like it may not be for the Zune 30s, but this is still pretty amazing since every interview I've seen said Microsoft was not focusing on games. This is an amazing surprise!

EDIT (16:05 Central)

Cesar says...

"Here's an important point of clarification: The announcements at GDC are about the new XNA Game Studio tools, which will support game development on Zune in the future. These added XNA capabilities are the first step toward offering developers the opportunity to design games that could be played on Zune devices, but Zune is a wireless music and video player first and foremost."

That, to me, sounds like a big fat "good things will probably come of this but don't start crying about not having your games tomorrow."

However, they did demo a game somewhat from what I can tell in the pictures on Engadget.

Sure this is a music player first and foremost, but some simple games would be great for on the subway or bus when boredom sets in. From day one people, myself included, have been saying that the Zune looks like it was designed to be a Tetris device. Just look st that screen the the four directional controls. Destiny is destiny, and I see Tetris in the near to moderatley distant future.

EDIT (17:57 Central)

New details from Engadget!

The above link contains hands-on pics and many details, but still not every detail people want to know.

re: MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES ZUNE GAMES!!!
do you even know what the XNA Platform is?  The Zun Dev team will most likely not ever use it unless some of the devs do it as a side hobby simply to put games on their zune.  This will never interfer with the Zun Dev Teams focus on the software becuase the XNA Platform is a seperate platform and chances are the Zune is already XNA compatible.

I didn't mean give everything they have, just 1 or 2 introductory ones.  I understand they need to get something out of it, but they might just hand out a couple to get people hooked.

I am pretty excited about this. I would think the touch pad could be a pretty useful game control input.

That's all well and good, but I mean 1 (Count it, one) game.  Something simple.  The iPod comes with games on it, so it would be nice to get one...

~shakes head~ because what the iPod does the zune should also do right?  Making a game takes time and effort and the developer should be rewaded accordingly sure it would be nice but is it something that is absolutely a must have...........no

re: MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES ZUNE GAMES!!!
I have a cell phone to play games on, I don't need to waste my zune battery with games. Then again...I'm not really into games because if I was, I would just buy a nintendo DS or something... Neat feature, but not to useful, I would prob. play it what, 3 times before I got bored of it?
