Argh. I just tried to get my 14 day free Zune Pass trial, so I could sign in to the Marketplace. A very friendly agent at Microsoft (after 10 minutes of checking on mysterious things) informed me that Marketplace was only available in the United States. No where is that stated on the freaking web site!

But if you scroll down to the bottom of the zune.net page, you can click on the "International" link, and select "Canada-English" and voila, no more Marketplace, no more Zune Pass, no Podcasts, nothing except the chirping of crickets and roars of polar bears.

Bottom line, I couldn't care less about downloading music. I'm into video. And what I want most from Marketplace are access to television shows and podcasts.

And as for podcasts, does anyone have a list of available sites outside of Marketplace that they wish to share? I'd appreciate it!

CBC.ca has podcasts that you can download.  F*ck the marketplace anyways... Funny, you can use the iPod links, just have to copy and change the subscribe in iTunes link by right clicking and "Copy Shortcut", paste into add podcast in Zune software, change the start start from itcp:// (iPod) to http://

example:

itpc://www.cbc.ca/podcasting/includes/w6.xml

to:

http://www.cbc.ca/podcasting/includes/w6.xml in the add podast in the Zune software.

here is the link. some are audio, some are video.  I watch the Hour video podcast.  just go to add podcast in Zune software and past the modified iPod links.

My computer is set to Canada.

I have no problems downloading podcasts via Marketplace.

After I read your message, I thought maybe Microsoft changed their policy towards Canadians, but then I retested my settings, and nope, they haven't.

I have a very explicit cause and effect. I'm running Windows XP Home edition, and I open my Control Panel and click Regional and Language options. I set location to Canada and start up the Zune software and I don't have Marketplace. I change that location to United States and Marketplace shows up.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Hope you're warm whereever you are!
