Firmware 3.0 causing Zune to freeze & other problems

After downloading the new firmware for my Zune a few days ago, my Zune (30GB, original) will sometimes freeze when I choose a song to play. Sometimes, if I wait about 20 seconds, it'll work, but the song will start while the Zune says it's at 20 seconds. I have to turn off my Zune (back button+up) & then turn it back on so I can play a song. Also, for some reason, some songs won't repeat if I hit the back button during the last 15-ish seconds. What happens is it'll go back to the beginning, then go right to the next song. Another problem is while I play a game, the same 2 problems mentioned earlier still occur, like not being able to go back to a song or the song won't play after choosing it while playing the game. When I go out of the game & choose a song, it just locks up. Finally, my last problem is the Repeat function doesn't work because it'll never repeat a song & I always have to hit back, but this has always been the case since I got my Zune a year ago.

Also, for some reason, I'll have MP4 files & the Zune software on my computer will consider it invalid & when it does read them, it takes about over 15 minutes just to put something on the Zune itself that's 20-ish minutes when it used to take under 5.

Did this start right after the upgrade to 3.0?  If so, it sounds like a fouled up upgrade...
You may want to consider reflashing the zune itself (restoring the firmware.)

Initialize Disk – Removes the content and the firmware.  Device will be inoperable until connected to a PC so new firmware can be installed.
V1 Devices (Zune 30): Press and hold Back + Left + OK
                V2 Devices (Zune 4/8 and 80): Press and hold Back + OK + Play/Pause

Yes, this started after the upgrade. I'm doing back+left+OK, but it's just going off & on like it was just sleeping... Never mind, I got it. I'll see if it'll fix the problem.

It stopped freezing after choosing a song, but it still won't repeat some songs by pressing left during the last few seconds nor does Repeat work.

It is not a fouled up upgrade.  There is clearly an issue with firmware 3.0.  I have a Zune 30 since launch and a Zune 80 that has never given me any problems since this update.  I've reformatted both Zune three times each and reinstalled the firmware as well and this problem still exist.  My Zune 80 being worse that my Zune 30 has frozen up on me a total of 68 times in the last 2 days.  Maybe you lucked out and are not experiencing these issues but they are valid.  It's a pain in the butt to have to keep reformatting and syncing 70gb of music every time to have the same issue.  Not to mention the software.  I'm on a Toshiba Satellite, Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 @ 1.7ghz, 2gb of memory with a Intel 945 Express Chipset Graphics Adapter.  The Zune 2.5 software ran great!  I loved it.  Zune 3.0, I have to turn my graphic settings to basic just to get it to perform some what like 2.5 not to mention it consuming over 144,000 k or memory sometimes.  I'm sure if I installed the software on my desktop it would run great but that's besides the point.  Waiting 5 - 6 months for this kind of update is wow.  I rather them take more time and make sure the updates will not cause these kinds of issue.  Sure issues will always happen, but freezing Zunes, slow performing GUI's, and slow software is not something I want to wait 6 months for.  I wish I had your luck with the Zune lol.  Overall it's an awesome device and I love it.  It's always the small issues leaving a bitter taste in your mouth.

OK...if you say so.  If it's not that, it's some sort of arcane conflict on your system that uSoft didn't test for- obviously they cannot test against all possible software footprints on all possible HW platforms...

I don't mean to be an @$$ and I know we have always been cool.  It's just a bit frustrating.  Imagine this.  Someone trying to get their game on with a girl.  You have that nice R&B music going on and boom, your Zune freezes lol.

I never took you to be an @$$, nor did I take any offense.
It's got to be one or the other... a corrupted install or some strange conflict...  I wish it were the former as that is easier to fix.

I'm having the exact same problem today with my Zune 80GB! I figured it was the update too because I've had my Zune for 6 months, use it almost daily and have never had this problem before. At first I thought it was just mine but it started to happen every single time so I'm glad I'm not the only one. Hopefully Microsoft can fix this soon as it is VERY frustrating restarting the device after every single song.

It's gone back to freezing when I choose some songs. For some reason, videos or podcasts (I have just one & all are videos) aren't affected.

re: Firmware 3.0 causing Zune to freeze & other problems
ok...I just got the new zune 120 for my birthday on september 22nd, and when i connected it to my computer, it downloaded the new zune 3.0 software. The day after i got the zune, it froze and i had to to keep resetting it (back button and up), so my dad told me we can take it back, but if its just the software...theyll eventually fix it for us right?
