Zune 30 versus present models

I hear the old Zune 30 with the newest software has the same features as the newer players. If this is true it would seem to be a good deal. What differences are there with the new software between the 30 and the new units?

The major feature difference is the 30s have an EQ (in hardware) and the newer ones don't because the hardware is different.  But, as newer and newer features are introduced in hardware and software, eventually the 30s will run out of gas and Microsoft may finally not be able to add all the features to it.  Could be soon, could be never...it's impossible to predict.
But, I would say this:  with all the new content options (games, new music, zune passes and so on) I'd buy the unit with the biggest storage capacity I could afford.

re: Zune 30 versus present models

Well considering my whole music library is only 27G and probably over half that is my wife's stuff I don't care about, I think 30G is plenty. I bought her an 8G zune and I put all kinds of stuff on it including two full length movies and I only filled it half way up. If I had no other way to store stuff then 120G would be nice but I can't see needing that kind of storage space.

As of right now, my 2 year old 30G Zune can do everything the shiny new Zunes can do...

Awesome, isn't it?!?

The 30G Zunes do everything that the new Zunes have, except they have a newer more squarish key pad. But i wish that i bought a newer zune because for the same price of $249 that i spent on the 30G Zune i could have had the 120G for the same price. I feel ripped off.

Everyone who ever bought a high tech electronic gadget or PC feels the same way.  There used to be a saying about PCs..."The one you really, really want will be released about 2 weeks after you buy one."

I think that's how every electronic consumer feels all the time. Case and point: First iPhone buyers, then the sudden price drop just a couple months later, or the fact that the 1st xbox 360 had 20 gigs for $400, now you can get the 60 gig model for $300

Fortunately, my Zune was a secret sale thing at walmart, and I got my Zune 30 for $100.

Zune 30
NEED MORE GIGS.

I understand what you are getting at. I bet in a few years zune will come out with Zunes that have even more gigs for the same price like maybe they'll have a zune with 200 gigs for the same price as the 120 gig is now then all the people with 120 gig zunes will feel the same way i do.

Exactly.   That's why the zune 80 was discontinued when the 120 was released (at the same price as the 80...)

I have the 1st Xbox 360 (20 gigs and was $399.00). It's on its way to Microsoft repairs for the Red Ring Thing. Lucky for me I was just about a month away from being out of the 3 year red ring warranty. It sucks that I know I can go out and buy a brand new one with 3 times the hard drive space and for less, but that is how the electronic industry is. I bought my tv about 3 yrs ago and at the time it was $1100.00 now the same model sells for like $400-$500. It's just the crap you have to deal with no matter what electronic you buy.
