See, that's great for your Zune, but not for mine.

I fixed 2 30GB Zunes by doing nothing more than letting the battery drain and then connecting it back up today. ... Zune Passed to Guns N' Roses Patience

"Hey! Look at me! Follow the directions and your Zune will be restored!"  la dee freakin dah

As already mentioned, good for you but not me. Maybe you haven't had a chance to read some of the threads on this forum. There are still MANY people that applied the regular "fix" and it didn't work. The regular fix didn't work on either of mine. I tried every "fix" I could find and the ONLY one that unlocked mine was the format of the device.

It's really nice to hear that your Zune came back the first try...

Actually, for me, they came back on the 2nd try since I was too anxious the first time around like many others. In any event, we didn't have to dismantle the Zune to fix the issue like many other hacks are suggesting.

Ok I followed all the steps, as directed by support staff waited till my zune died completely. I took it plugged it in to my dock and it took a bit to charge enough to reboot, after so still no dice froze on the zune loading screen till its 2241 GMT time and way past the 1200 GMT time so what gives anyone else still got issues.Angry [:@]

Yeah, I've still got one that's frozen. My black one that my wife gave me for Christmas in '06 would boot to a black screen and nothing else. Being impatient, I decided to reformat it and reload my music. Works great now. My son's brown Zune that I gave him for Christmas in '07 is still locked up but he wants to give it another day before we wipe it clean.

If you don't have a backup of your data, you may want to wait for Microsoft to come out with another solution.

Maybe the device has an issue besides the leap year problem. Give this a look, it may help -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931912.

Following the directions (after patiently waiting) worked for me.Didn't lose any DRM protected content from the device. There should be no sympathy for anyone who opened their Zune; that's asking for trouble and never a good idea with any tech device.

Folks may want to consider that the firmware version may be a factor in whether the drain/recharge/sync process is an effective fix. Maybe instead of infinite irrational threads demanding some sort of "compensation" from MS, those who are still having problems should start posting specifics about the firmware, date of purchase, etc., anything that may lead to a common observation.

Kudos to the Zuner who started the thread about serial numbers; at least that's an effort toidentify a trend or pattern instead of ranting and raving.

I'll check it out. I dont see why it would be another issue mine died at the same time as my gunners, and I haven't done anything to it except let the battery die out. Maybe I did not let it die out completly, I pluged it in after the screen cut off but if you press play the batt symbol pops up for a sec. how do you know when its completly out of power?
