To "bricked" Zune 30 owners

I too am suffering through this outage. I encourage all owners or currently unusable devices to exercise patience and restraint with respect to this outage. I am confident that the Zune team is working on resolving this issue as quick as possible. I advise you to not try the battery reset fix that is circulating as this will void your warranty, if any, and will likely preclude you from particpating in any kind of other fix.

If the problem is software related I anticipate that there will be a fix today, be patient. If its hardware related then The Zune team (not MS corporate) should take steps to offer voucers for massively discounted upgrades.

Regardless, consider yourself lucky that the batteries don't explode. And if there is any good that has come out of this it that the size of the Zune community has been exposed. The Zune community can no longer be called small and insignificant by iCabal people as the sheer size of this outage and the coverage on tech blogs has been large.

Again, be patient, keep an eye on the forums and I will try to update this post as I get news.

re: To "bricked" Zune 30 owners

I am mad as HECK, that this problem has happened for no other reason that I got my Zune when it first came out as a christmas gift from my wife (who by the way does not care about technology as much as I do). So this is a big deal to me. I brag to everyone with an ipod that I take my 30GB over any ipod shmipod. I am now going to be a laughing stock if they do not at least recall or fix the problem for free for loyal Microsoft software and hardware purchasers.

They're working on it...I'm in touch with one of the team.  They'll say something when they have something real to say (besides that they're working on it...which only frustrates people if you say it again)

I don't know, but have to strongly believe this is a firmware glitch.  Hardware doesn't fail across many many users all on the same day.  Stay calm, and watch the support page for updates.

No, he makes a good point about the size of the Zune community. This problem is affecting a large number of people, and that's just the 30 GB Zune. As I'm sure we all know, Zunes started becoming much popular after the second generation devices were released, which means the number of people affected by this problem is a lot less than the Zune community as a whole.

Of course, the iPod fanboys won't see it this way. They'll just say "your fault for buying a Zune".

I don't see how they can fix it. If the device won't boot up at all because of the "software glitch" and the device won't respond to a hard reboot or even trying to powering it down, how are you supposed to update the software?

if and when they fix my 30gb zune I am selling it and getting an ipod. I haven't had the one I have now for a month (I had to argue with Microsoft to get mine replaced for free) and now this happened. Seriously, Microsoft can kiss my ass.

C-ya go spend more money haha I am sure there is more story to why the didnt want to replace your zune in the first place... probably something you dont want us knowing because it wasn't a good reason for it to be replaced.

message to everyone who now hates microsoft:

ITS NOT JUST YOURS, YOU DIDNT BUY THE ONLY ONE THAT IS IS HAPPENING TO. RELAX AND STOP FREAKING OUT.

This is my fear too.  It won't reset, it won't respond to being plugged in, USB doesn't recognize the device.  I don't see an easy fix but then I don't work on the Zune team.  *keeping my fingers crossed*
