should microsoft compensate zune 30 owners with free zune pass?
come on microsoft.. we've been here for 2 years now using the zune 30, most users been paying for zune pass subscriptions since day 1... today our zunes died, all together

what about giving away free zune pass after you solve the zune 30 meltdown?

you should consider it !

I guess the problem goes beyond that, but some kind of answer is extremely needed. every moment they pass without giving a proper solution is bad for them. People with zune30 have to wait, but not forever...

For once, I stand behind a call for something like this. This problem is something that never should have made it out of testing. I've been with the Zune Pass since Day 1 and I'm seriously looking into other devices and services due to this. We at least need some kind of acknowledgment or statement from MS that clarifies the issue and puts in place a plan of action.

Maybe not exactly free Zune Passes, but perhaps a free album or two would ease my pain a little.  Just a little.

How about a free iPod touch, along with a deep apology to all holders of MSFT stock who also just got royally screwed by incompetent QA at MSFT.

re: should microsoft compensate zune 30 owners with free zune pass?

It's way too early to be demanding compensation.  Be patient and see how Microsoft responds to this.  As bad of a situation as this is, I wouldn't want to be working on the Zune team in any capacity today.  My family has 4 Zune 30s and I have a Zune 80.  I think we should all calm down and show some common decency.  Give Microsoft a chance to do the right thing.  They will not be able to deny this problem exists like the XBox 360 RROD, so just be patient.

That being said, I am quite anxious to see how this issue is resolved.  I bought 3 of my Zune 30s last winter at a Target clearance, so I may still be in warranty.  I can't imagine that the warranty will be an issue here though.

re: should microsoft compensate zune 30 owners with free zune pass?

A bit early to start asking for freebies, isn't it?  I mean come on, it's only 7:30 in the morning in Redmond.  The Zune team is just now waking up.  It will be a few hours, at least, before anybody has a handle on this bug.  It could be a day or two.  But free Zune Passes?  I think that's extreme at the moment.

Hell, they have gone out of their way to keep really old and obsolete Zune 30s running with the latest functionality for the past two years.  I'm happy about that.  They've taken care of us.  They'll deal with this too.

It's an inconvenience.  Nothing more.

StLRams11...
Is your 80 locked up also?  Or is it limited to the 30s?

If this were isolated, yes. But given RROD issues, this, Vista driver issues, and a long litany of Microsoft QA screw ups going back a long time, seeing this madness just takes the cake.

Never having purchased a Zune pass, I'm not sure what exactly I'd be getting, but it strikes me. If the Zune is not working, what good is a pass?
