Now Playing Sucks! Give me back my Quicklist!

Ok, I know what most of you are thinking. They are both the same, they just changed the name.

That is absolutely incorrect. Quicklist worked independently of the shuffle artist button. I use to use my quick list as a playlist creator of sorts. I would shuffle my songs, and if one I really liked would come up, I'd add it to my quick list. Now if you click on the shuffle artist/album/song etc. it immediately adds all those songs to the now playing.

This is just not what I wanted. I did want the ability to edit my quicklist, but I didn't want it to coincide with the shuffle function.

THIS IS TOTALLY MAKING ME HATE THE UPDATE!

Microsoft, please please fix this.

Love,

Harlock

I understand the issue, but wouldn't it be a better idea to make an auto playlist for songs you've played more than X amount of times, so you have all your favorite songs in one place?

That auto-playlist idea is interesting but it doesn't really replace the quicklist.

I too had been enjoying trolling my Zune for music I hadn't heard in a while by creating an 50 song auto-playlist of everything. Then I'd add quick-list stuff I came across so that I'd remember to go add those artists to manual 'reminders' playlist so that I could listen up for a while.

I also have used the quick-list to acrete songs that need to go in a couple other manual playlists I am building up... you know, when you come across a song and think: "That's be great for my playlist X". Since we still don't have the feature to add songs to existing playlists from the device (that'd be a neat feature), the quicklist was the only way to set those things aside.

Now, no more quick-list.

All that said, I like the now playing feature as it allows me to queue up a bunch of songs on the the current 'now playing' playlist and so I don't have to change later. That part is good. If we could just get the ability to add songs to any playlist, we'd be all set then.

I for one like the Now Playing queue, which replaces the old Quicklist.  The queue was a regularly used feature on my old Clix.  With the Zune, sometimes I would forget that I had a few albums worth of songs on the Quicklist and then unwittingly add more---which made the List too large.  Then I would have to clear it and start over.  I think the Now Playing feature will be used far more frequently these days.

re: Now Playing Sucks! Give me back my Quicklist!

I agree that quicklist needed fixing. Thats how I found out about all this mess. I wanted to be able to edit quicklist and I saw that now playing could be edited (remove songs), but then I tried the shuffle all, and it immediately put all those songs in the now playing. Squidgey Flint...thats exactly how I used my quicklist as well. Hopefully they update and let us edit our playlists. I dont have time to sit at my PC and create playlists, so I would come up with ideas while listening to random and then save to my quicklist and then when I got home I'd add those songs to a playlist. Maybe we could just have both the now playing and the quicklist, and I would be happy.

re: Now Playing Sucks! Give me back my Quicklist!

I haven't done the update (probably tonight).

I use the Quick List most the time and just purge it occasionally and start over. The thing I like about it though is that if I'm talking to a friend and want to show them a specific song or artist I can without it effecting my Quick List. Once I'm done showing my friend a few songs I can go back to my Quick List just the way it was.

Are you telling me that with the replacement screen if I pop out of my Quick List just to check out a song for a specific purpose that my Quick List will disappear? If so, that's really going to suck.

Yeah, I gotta agree, the Now Playing isnt all that great.

If I set-up a custom playlist to listen to for some random reason at some random time, I dont want that to be overwritten when I choose to go play a single album or artist.

My two cents worth!

I too hate the now playing feature. I like that they added that you could actually remove songs from it but now when you play one song from a playlist or an album it adds the entire playlist or album to NOW PLAYING. I liked the quicklist because you could add songs from many playlists or albums to have a customized list. I didn't like that you could not remove songs from the old quicklist. Well  you can now remove songs from NOW PLAYING but if you set up some songs to play on it and you decide to listen to something else then all of THOSE songs are added to NOW PLAYING and your other list is deleted. I wish they would just have added the remove song and left quicklist alone. I HATE THE NOW PLAYING FEATURE. Also I was hoping for a sleep timer but they only added a clock. We know what time it is.

I have to agree with most regarding the NOW PLAYING feature...... HATE IT... HATE IT .... HATE IT!!!! A friend of mine and I used to use the quick list to take turns picking songs and listening our way through the "battle of the songs".  Now we can't do that.  Microsoft, please fix this "feature" because it is CRAP!!!!

re: Now Playing Sucks! Give me back my Quicklist!
I think that we need to keep posting here to get Microsoft to fix the horrible NOW PLAYING feature. It IS great that they added "remove song from list" to now playing. I asked for that many times talking to support. But to have NOW PLAYING to totally overwrite your songs every time that you play another song in an album really sucks. Did anyone notice that even when you play one song from an album or playlist it adds the entire album to NOW PLAYING. I loved then quickly hated the update. The clock is nice but a sleep timer would have been better. Come on MS get your act together. I am missing my Creative Labs now.

Really, we need both, but with some changes.

Quicklist was good as it was, once ppl got used to it, and got over the fact that you can't create/edit playlist you already had the quicklist was good.  Personally, even if I could create/edit existing playlists I'd still want the quicklist.  The now playing shouldn't clear when you switch  from music to podcasts or radio At least with the quicklist I could go back to the same set of tracks if I took a break and watched a video now its all gone.  Add the quicklist back, and keep the now playing.
