Gen 1 zune owners be happy you got the new firmware and lets work together to find a fix around for our problems with new update.....
To the Zune owners complaining about the update, go on and get an iPod...it'll be dead in a couple of years via the "iPod death clock" with no aid from Apple. At least MS didnt forget about the original adopters of the Zune and included us in their upgrade...they could of been like Steve Jobs and bricked our units, saying the update didnt take because you did something to your MP3 player. (Google it and you'll know what i mean)  Thank you MS for not doing that by the way :) Just had to put in my 2 cents before i go hunting the forums to find out where the hell my music went after the update..lol

I quite agree. When you look at it the Classic iPod and the newest iPod video are the same thing. Maybe just a little thinner and a different case, thats it! Why couldnt they just give the new interface to the Classic iPod users. Its just a ploy to get users to buy the latest thing.

Im just happy microsoft isnt going down that route. Its nice that they support the original adopters which could cause a fall in product sales (not as many people upgrading from Zune 30 to Zune 80). The Zune has a promising future!

I agree..they didnt have to give us first generz the hardware update. But you see the update also affected our software..so I think we are allowed to point out our concerns.

re: Gen 1 zune owners be happy you got the new firmware and lets work together to find a fix around for our problems with new update.....

Actually I have no problem with the firmware update, seems better than 1.4, except - font too big and they removed themes and video options are gone. Course I only had my Zune for 3 days.

It'll be nice they add more options for videos, option for the font and the themes.

I also would like to be able to catagorize my videos like the Zune used to have when I first turned it on (ie. Music Videos, Movies, etc.)  I can't find anyway to catagorize them, but at least with the old software I could put genres for them.  Also a continous play or consectative play for videos would be nice, that way I can watch all my shows without having to manually scroll to the next one.

But I'm still new on using the Zune.  So hopefully instead of crippling the Zune and software, MS will add more options allow more customization, thus people can change their Zunes to what they like.

But when the newer Zune comes out, will MS still update the first gen.?  Or focus on the newer one(s)?

I'm a Gen 1 owner, and would love to have the firmware update...if only I could get the client to install...

Seriously, I have a very old 10G iPod (think clickwheel...) that still works, my wife has a nano, and we've had no problem with either (my iPod is now over 6 years old).  I wanted to upgrade and to this day I really like the Zune.  It's just so hard to make it all work...

Dont praise MS for including us in our updates and dont  delude yourself into thinking the "I-Pod death clock" wont happen to Zune it will once the Zune is in enough of the market they will do what ipod does >the 1st gens of ipod got matching software updates< I-Pod is so popular they can afford to not care.

MS knows that right now if they followed the I-pod module that would be the kiss of death for the ZUNE.  If they chould have gotten away with not giving the zune 1 the upgrade they would have but they needed the marketing hype for doing just that so that people wouldnt be as afraid to adopt the alternative to the i-pod.

They personal MP3 player market is so deluded now MS is leveraging what they can to get free press >hopefully positive but I think this will backfire< and not abonding gen1 players would be good press.

I WAS liking it. Was getting uset to the new look re-organizing and even wiped my zune to start fresh with the new software (it needed it anyway) Then I rebooted my computer. Now I've got this "upgrade" installed and zune software won't even start up! I get a friggin error message about not being able to connect to zune marketplace. I've gone from limited functions, to complete uselessness. THIS SUCKS!!!  Angry [:@]

re: Gen 1 zune owners be happy you got the new firmware and lets work together to find a fix around for our problems with new update.....
if Microsoft and it's Zune Division stop giving Gen 1 users the updates then the least they can do is give a trade-in rebate for the new Gen Zunes I have A white Gen 1 Zune and yes its got some downsides to my old iRiver but its still a flawless piece of engineering and i love it but if it comes to that point I know I still wouldnt buy a new Zune because I'll be fine to settle with the one I have but if they would offer a trade-in offer where you send in your old Zune for a new one and then pay the difference instead of the whole price, then that be a whole different ball game i would immediatly do it then not to mention that the would get alot of fans coming back into the zune business and refreshing the market now grant it what good are all the returned zunes going to be for them, i don't know I'm sure they'll find someone who wants to buy a refurbished gen 1 zune or just the parts could become usefull for reproduction of a new device of some sort right?!

What the..???  Have you ever heard of punctuation?  Your whole spiel is nothing but a bunch of run-on sentences and I have no idea what you are trying to say, except, possibly, that you want Microsoft to take your old Zune in as a trade-in, and as a favor to them, you will, in return, buy a new Zune?

You're kidding, right?  Name one major electronics manufacturer that does that!  That's what ebay and craigslist is for!!
