Do you think your device plays don't count?

Try this for me - assuming your "recently played" is updating from the software.

Connect your device to your PC. Log in.

Go to "settings," "device," "linking."

If it says "Your device is linked to Zune Tag <whatever>", click "remove link."

Otherwise, check the radio button for "Link my Zune to a Zune Tag"

You can choose whether or not to enable Marketplace purchases, that's not relevant here. (The checkbox below)

Click "Next" at the bottom.

Sign in and hit "confirm."

You should now see "Your Zune is now linked to <tag name>."

Unplug your device, play some music on it.

Then plug your device back in and sync.

Post here whether this worked to upload device plays.

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Followed your steps and played three songs.

  • My total plays increased by three.
  • All three songs appeared in my "Recent Plays"
  • One of the songs was a "Most Played Song" that count did not change.
  • All Three songs were my "Most Played Artist" that count also did not change.

My total plays increased by around 400 - so that should just about cover everything I've listened to on the Zune recently.  Thanks for the suggestion!

Tried that. Twice. Didn't work.

Interestingly, what did work to bump my playcount was playing a bunch of songs ON the Zune software, not on the Zune device.

Hope that helps!

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Hey Jess,

Here's what I did.

  1. Unlinked Zune.
  2. Deleted ZuneStore.sdf
  3. Formatted Zune
  4. Re-setup Zune & sync'd

This morning my play count did show an increase, and displayed exactly what songs were played from the Zune. I guess that means I lost all my previous plays over the past week and a half.

re: Do you think your device plays don't count?

Followed your steps and played three songs.

  • My total plays increased by three.
  • The three songs I played showed an increase in play count
  • The three songs did not show up in my "Recently Played"
  • The three songs did not show on my Zune card or my Profile Page
What it comes down to for me is the song is logged as a play count but none of the data is going to either my recently played list or my zune card/profile.

My software songs are accounted for. They show up on both my recently played list and my zune card/profile. However my device plays seem to be illusive.

Edited to add: I played 3 cd's worth of HIM songs last night of which none appeared on my recently played list or my profile. However this morning the music that I played via the software is all showing up on both my recently played and my profile/zune card.

From this test, it's very obvious my Zune device plays are not reflected in any way on my profile.

So I just became a "Bronze Power Listener" for The Mars Volta. This leads me to believe the artist/track updates are actually happening behind the scenes and are just not being updated properly on your profile because my Mars Volta count has been at 144 plays for a few weeks now.

Hasn't Been Working For Me Either, Even Created This New Zune Tag To See If It Was The Tag Or Th Device. Definitely Thinking It's The Device Cuz I Still Have No New Updates From The Device Plays.
